Netflix’s romcom drama series, ‘Too Much,’ follows the misadventures of a New Yorker in London. It begins with Jess, a producer at an ad agency, who suffers a devastating breakup that threatens to derail her mental wellbeing. This is when a move to London comes into the picture, and she immediately jumps at the opportunity. The season ends with Jess finding her happy ending, but as we know, real life doesn’t stop at sharing wedding vows. In fact, this is just the beginning.
While one could say that the arc of Jess’ story has found its conclusion, one must note that the series has not been billed as miniseries by Netflix, which means that the streaming service is biding its time to green light the second season, which is highly likely, considering the creative power of Lena Dunham behind it. Still, even with a quick renewal, the series would take anywhere between a year and two to finish the full cycle of productions, which means ‘Too Much’ Season 2 may release on Netflix sometime in early 2027.
Too Much Season 2 Could Focus on Jess and Felix’s Married Life
‘Too Much’ is created by Lena Dunham with her husband, Luis Felber, and is a semi-autobiographical representation of their relationship and Dunham’s experience after her move to London. Considering that they are married in real life now, one could say that there is a lot left to tell in Jess and Felix’s story. At the end of Season 1, the duo gets married, but this doesn’t mean that all their problems have magically been solved. Jess still has to deal with her insecurities and rein in her red flag behaviour, while Felix has a lot of emotional mess to clear up before the duo can find a semblance of stability.
This storm in the future is hinted at by Felix’s joke, where he asks Jess how long she wants to be married for. Should the second season happen, it would focus on resolving these issues and how Jess and Felix’s individual journey affect their marriage. Since their relationship is only a few months old, there is a lot they still don’t know about each other, and another season would present the chance to peel through those layers and break those walls to make the characters much more vulnerable and real.
Too Much Season 2 Could Bring Felix to America
The first season of ‘Too Much’ draws conflict from the culture shock that Jess receives when she comes to London. However, her three-month period and the project that brought her to this side of the pond are over now. Even if she is married to Felix now, she still has to have a job. Before she decided to win her now-husband back, she was in conversation with her brother-in-law, who asked her to come back to the States to properly kickstart her directing career. It would be foolish to let go of this major development, which means that Jess will have to come back home, which means that Felix will have to accompany her.
In London, Jess got to meet and spend time with Felix’s friends, and although there is a lot left to explore there even now, the move to America in Season 2 could open the door to Felix seeing Jess’ side of the world. Now, he could meet and spend time with her family and friends and witness the beautiful chaos that surrounds his wife in all its glory. At the same time, moving to America could also mean big things for Felix’s music career, and it would be interesting to see how he adapts to it compared to the indie scene back in London.
Too Much Season 2 Will Bring Back Favorite Cast Members
If the second season of ‘Too Much’ were to happen, Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe would return to play Jess and Felix. Because family is an important part of both characters’ stories, all of their family members are expected to come back. On Jess’ side, we have Rita Wilson’s Lois (Jess’ mother), Rhea Perlman’s Dottie (Jess’ grandma), Lena Dunham’s Nora (Jess’ sister), and Andrew Rannells’ Jameson (Jess’ brother-in-law). On Felix’s side are his parents: Stephen Fry’s Simon and Kaori Momoi’s Aiko, and his sister, Emily Piggford’s Alaia.
The rest of the characters would find their roles reduced or increased depending on where the next season occurs. If it continues to be in London, then we expect to see the return of Jess’ boss, Jonno (Richard E. Grant), his wife Ann (Naomi Watts), and the coworkers Kim (Janicza Bravo), Josie (Daisy Bevan), and Boss (Leo Reich). Felix’s friends like Polly (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Auggie (Prasanna Puwanarajah) might also return, considering there is much left to tell about his past. Dean-Charles Chapman’s endearing Gaz might also make a return.
Should the story move to New York, Jess and Felix might cross paths with Michael Zegen’s Zev. However, Emily Ratajkowski’s Wendy might make herself scarce since she has finally rid herself of Zev’s toxicity. Considering the star-studded cameos in the first season, like Jessica Alba, Rita Ora, Andrew Scott, and Kit Harington, to name a few, the second season is also expected to have a similar high-profile lineup. How many cameos from the first season reprise their roles in the next chapter of Jess and Felix’s story remains to be seen.
