The Trauma OR Saves a Young Girl’s Life

An unfortunate victim of a coyote gets rolled into the Trauma, OR early into the day. Esther, the patient, was on a walk with her brother and their beloved dog. Birdie, when a coyote attacked the group. In order to save her pawed pal, the young girl jumped in front of the rabid animal, getting mauled in the process. Fortunately, she was brought into the hospital in the nick of time. Still, the danger to her neck and the surrounding internal organs runs a great risk of preventing June and her colleagues from providing the ideal treatment possible. While all of this unfolds, Theo makes sure to keep Birdie in the room in the patient’s line of sight ot avoid any attachment-related breakdowns.

Soon enough, Dr. Novack comes up with a viable solution. As it turns out, he has been stashing away a handy medical tool that can be a lifesaver for young Esther. Thus, they’re able to do their best for the patient. However, Novack’s devil-may-care attitude, which compelled him to refrain from going through the proper channels about bringing the medical device into the OR, gives Devi the perfect excuse to cut him from the department. He has consistently showcased an inability to work within a non-toxic environment while flagrantly shrugging off the establishment’s rules or chain of command. Thus, Devi makes her final decision, which ends up impacting June more than Novack.

Bash Struggles While Mags is Under Surgery

The lead-up to Mags’ surgery is a difficult time for almost everyone. Therefore, on the day of the surgery, Bash finds himself a bit more sensitive and plagued by his personal issues than otherwise. This prevents him from taking risks and listening to one of his patients, Paige, regarding her pancreatic pain. Even though he follows all the proper protocol and channels, he loses out on his patient’s trust, which inevitably compels her to leave the hospital without finishing treatment. On his part, Bash is able to recognize the pitfalls of his performance as a healthcare provider and tries to stay in touch with Kareem, the resident mental health professional.

Nonetheless, Kareem eventually draws boundaries between their personal and professional relationships, knowing better than to be a friend and a therapist to Bash. Meanwhile, Theo runs into some personal complications of his own. His father is picking up his daughters for an exciting trip. During their short visit to the hospital, he crosses paths with Liz, the pediatric doctor’s girlfriend. Nonetheless, the doctor remains reluctant to reveal this information to his father on account of the latter’s firm religious beliefs that often result in judgments about his son’s life. However, eventually, Theo’s father goes on to prove his son wrong by revealing that he has slowly but surely started to sever his ties from the more toxic and controlling aspects of the church. In turn, the young doctor can’t help but be troubled by this revelation about the drastic change in his father’s life.

Mags Wakes From Her Surgery

Initially, the doctors faced some complications during Mags’ surgery. Therefore, when we first see her post-surgery, circling through hazy memories and dreams about her new life, things end up being a bit confusing. Nonetheless, everything eventually stabilizes, and we find Mags in her parents’ house with Bash by her side. In the aftermath of her surgery, the couple manages to work through the previous complications that drove them apart from each other. This time around, both doctors seem dedicated to working together to make their relationship real and reliable.

Six months in the future, Bash and Mags are more or less living together, seamlessly weaving into each other’s lives. They both look after young Amira and continue to live happily as a couple. Although this new reality comes as a bit of a shock, especially because of the abrupt time jump, things seem to be well in place. Still, one can’t be entirely sure if this is some cryptic extension of the same weird dream Mags experienced when she first woke up post-surgery. Even so, for now, this new reality, with the couple together and June heading the Trauma OR, seems to be the new norm.
