Trap House 2: Will There be a Sequel? Theories

Directed by Michael Dowse, ‘Trap House’ dives straight into a world of high-stakes confrontations, with DEA agents in El Paso engaging the cartel in a constant tug of war. While Ray Seale is one of the star agents in the city, his family life is in a less-than-ideal state, which also affects his son, Cody. When a traumatic incident shakes the DEA to its core, Cody decides to take matters into his own hands, even if it means going toe to toe with the cartel. Collaborating with his friends, all of whom have parents in the DEA, Cody decides to stalk, ambush, and steal from the cartel.

However, playing with fire comes with its risks, and by the end of the movie, Cody finds himself staring death in the face. Ray’s timely intervention flips the situation around, resulting in the death of the cartel’s two leaders, Benito and Natalie. Still, with Teresa making it out alive, Ray and Cody cannot rest easily anytime soon. While a sequel for the movie has not been confirmed as of writing, fans can expect a potential ‘Trap House 2’ to release sometime around 2027 to 2028.

Trap House 2 Can Follow Teresa’s Reign as the New Antagonist

As ‘Trap House’ ends with Teresa as the story’s new villain, a potential sequel movie might explore more of her side of the story. In the absence of Benito and Natalie, Teresa can essentially run the cartel however she sees fit, which means that DEA’s troubles are far from over. The last scene of the movie, in particular, almost feels like a cliffhanger of sorts, as Teresa can be seen spying on Cody and his friends. While it is possible that she intends to bide her time and strategize before going on the offensive, chances are that she will attack sooner rather than later. The fact that Cody and his friends are leading their lives normally means that the DEA may have already made an error in judgment by underestimating Teresa, and things can easily get worse from there.

Teresa may not be the only source of worry for Cody and his family, as there is a distinct possibility of the authorities catching up to his crimes. To begin with, Cody and Kyle’s DNA is likely all over the beer truck, which means that the DEA is bound to eventually face some uncomfortable questions. The fact that Ray is forced to come up with a cover story on the spot also means that his narrative is full of holes. As it stands, the cartel has no reason to hold Cody and Deni hostage, and the only link between the two sides happens to be Teresa, who has already made her escape. In that vein, there is a possibility of Cody being arrested for leading three robberies from right under the DEA’s noses, and how Ray manages to get out of this conundrum can make for an intense plot beat in and of itself.

Trap House 2 Might Expand on the Movie’s Teens Vs. Adults Arc

One of the recurring motifs introduced in the story is that of adults underestimating teenagers, as the entire robbery rests on the fact that Cody and his friends are not even considered as suspects. While Ray seems to have learnt from that mistake and evolved as a character, the same isn’t true for the rest of the characters. By the end, it is clear that the DEA is slowing down its confrontation with the cartel under the assumption that both Benito and Natalie are dead. What they likely don’t realize, however, is that Teresa is just as big a threat, if not more, and is almost certain to continue her mother’s mission of tracing the identities of all undercover DEA agents. The fact that Ray, and potentially the families of Yvonne, Deni, and Kyle, are now all under cartel spotlight means that they may have to revamp their identity or risk a direct fight on their home turf.

Alongside the action front of the story, a potential ‘Trap House 2’ can also delve deeper into Cody’s romantic journey. Although at first it appears that Cody and Teresa are a match made in heaven, that dynamic is fractured with the reveal of her being a cartel member. Instead, a potential sequel can tap into his other dynamics, especially the one he shares with Deni. Throughout the movie, Cody and Deni develop a particularly close bond, one where all of their highs and lows are felt together. The fact that the climax revolves around their arc is perhaps an indication of their budding romantic relationship. While that is one of many potential angles, the one thing that is likely to remain unchanged is the movie’s sensitivity towards Ray and Cody’s journey, which doubles as a deep dive into what it means to be father and son.
