‘Under a Dark Sun’ offers a thrilling ride, ripe with complicated family dynamics and a whodunnit narrative at the tale’s center. As season 1 concludes, the protagonist successfully unravels the truth about Arnaud Lasserre’s death and even discovers hidden secrets about her own past. Nonetheless, justice in the more conventional sense is ultimately evaded in favor of self-serving and self-preservatory motives. As such, someone else wears the burden of the mayhem, while the real killer gets to cut a deal with Alba and walk free.
On the other hand, the family estate undergoes a change in ownership, which sees the return of a familiar face to the lives of the Lasserres. Therefore, even though the overarching enigmas are tied up, uncertainty continues to loom on the horizon. Although there haven’t yet been any announcements about a renewal in the show’s future, a potential season 2 would be an excellent opportunity to explore these avenues. Thus, in the event of such a continuation for the show, fans can look forward to a release date sometime in 2027.
Under a Dark Sun Season 2 Can Explore Nadia’s Link to the Lasserres
‘Under a Dark Sun’ season 1 does a great job of wrapping up all the prominent mysteries that haunt the narrative following Arnaud’s murder. Therefore, most of the loose ends are neatly tied up with a clear indication toward the guilty parties and their motivations. Furthermore, other characters and their peculiar storylines are also explained away with an insight into their histories and past traumas. For the same reason, there’s no persisting mystery that the show might carry forward into a season 2. Yet, there’s one major revelation that is bound to strongarm its way into the spotlight in the event of a renewal.
Nadia’s return to the Lasserre Estate, this time as a buyer instead of an employee, promises to pack a heavy punch for the existing central characters. The perfume-maker has deep, complicated connections to almost everyone. Alba is her secret daughter, whom she was manipulated into abandoning, and Mathieu, her biological father, is the man who loved and lost her. In fact, even young lawyer Manon, daughter of Josephine, an important figure in Nadia’s life, has a distinct link to the woman. Consequently, now that the former flower picker has decided to make a comeback into the Lasserres’ lives, there’s plenty of opportunity for increased family drama and destruction.
Under a Dark Sun Season 2 Might Further Scrutinize Alba’s Family History
For much of season 1, most of the characters operate under the assumption that Arnaud is Alab’s biological father. However, in an unexpected turn of events, it is revealed that she is actually biologically connected to his son, Mathieu, who is her real father. Therefore, by the end of the show, not only are both of Alba’s parents alive, but they are also under the same roof. This opens up the opportunity for the protagonist to form meaningful relationships and connections with her family. Even though this might be difficult between her and Mathieu, the young woman can certainly get closer to her mother. Furthermore, the complicated dynamic between the father-daughter duo can also lend itself to riveting storytelling.
In a similar vein, the show can also use season 2 as an opportunity to offer some clarity on Alba’s relationship with her adoptive parents. In season 1, her adoptive mother and father seem to have given up on her entirely to the point where Thierry attempts to take Leo away from his daughter and encourages the authorities to lock her up for murder. Although the protagonist’s past with Dimitri explains some of this hostility between her and her parents, a future continuation can expand upon it and provide more satisfying arcs within these relationships. Likewise, the narrative can also delve into Beatrice’s past and her own complicated relationship with her kids, Mathieu and Lucie. Thus, there’s plenty of inter-personal drama that a potential season 2 can unearth.
Under a Dark Sun Season 2 Would Have to Bring Back Most of Its Cast Members
A crucial aspect of ‘Under a Dark Sun’ that lends itself to the show’s favor stems from the electrifying dynamics and chemistry between the season 1 cast. Lead actress Ava Baya brings certain ferocity and edge to her character that allows her to helm the thrilling murder mystery with commendable force. Claire Romain’s innocently devilish disposition also carries a certain weight throughout the narrative. Likewise, other actors who make up the Lasserre family flawlessly step into their roles like pieces of a puzzle. For the same reason, if a potential season 2 decides to continue Alba’s narrative at the Lasserre estate, it’s crucial that all the actors from the main cast reprise their roles.
Alternatively, there are a handful of those actors who likely can’t return for another round. Thibault de Montalembert’s Arnaud haunts season 1 from beyond the grave. However, his presence won’t make sense in the future installment, especially if his death doesn’t take the narrative center stage. Similarly, Simon Ehrlacher, who plays the dead and departed Valentin, will also probably not return for a season 2. On the flip side, we can hope to see more of Nadia’s actress, who might occupy a more primary role in the narrative. Additionally, given her character’s marital status, there’s also a possibility for new faces to join the crowd, promising exciting developments to the storyline.
