Helena Tries to Run Away From an Abusive Relationship
The series begins with Helena frantically packing her bags and jewelry. Her son, Fernando, calls her from the airport, following which she tells him that she’s leaving the house now and that the nightmare ends today. As she’s about to leave, her husband Claudio enters the house, and violently pushes her against the wall, refusing to end their relationship, and also claiming that he bought her everything she owns, including her son’s education. Helena fights back, but he pulls out a gun and bullies her into submission. Weeks later, Helena sits by a pool and uses the alias “Emma” to match on a dating app with a mysterious handsome man named Iván.
Helena goes on to hook up with him at a hotel and refuses to have deeper conversations. She continues to hook up with him many times, over a period of nearly three months. Iván asks her to be his girlfriend, following which they watch a movie together. When they walk out of the theatre, a woman named Eva accuses Iván of not spending time with her and also reveals that he is an escort. Following the shocking revelation, Helena walks out. Iván slowly begins to obsess over her and also begins to fall in love. He talks to Fedra about wanting to quit being an escort and only focus on his acting career.
When Helena walks into the restaurant with her husband, Fedra reveals Helena’s true identity to Iván, telling him that her name is not Emma and that her husband, Claudio, is a businessman who owns a resort complex called Sal y Mar. Fedra asks Iván not to get involved, as it could be dangerous. However, the young man proceeds to walk into the bathroom and hooks up with Helena again. It is revealed that Claudio and Helena both know Fedra. The following morning, Iván and Helena hook up again, and he tells her that he would give up everything for her. She reveals that she is Claudio’s second wife, and that he already has two children from the earlier marriage, named Octavio and Livia.
An Act of Deception Turns Deadly
Unfortunately, the protagonist’s biological son, Fernando, is mistreated by her husband, since he’s just a step-son, who is also known to have a drug problem. Helena also reveals that Claudio is gay and has a weakness for good-looking young men. With her help, Iván pretends to be a journalist named Javier Alfaro from LA to try and interview Claudio, in order to find out his vulnerabilities. The businessman gets comfortable with the journalist over a few days and offers to host him at his luxury house in Valle. With Ivan’s consent, Helena sets up a secret camera in the Valle house to apprehend Claudio if he gets intimate with the journalist.
Livia intervenes during a presentation of the Sal y Arena business plan, claiming that it harms the environment, angering her father. At the Valle house, the two men get close to each other, and their actions are recorded by the secret camera. Claudio forces Iván to have sex with him, but the young man refuses, leading to a confrontation. During the altercation, the book containing the hidden camera falls down, exposing it to Claudio. Meanwhile, an angry Fernando drives towards Valle to kill his stepfather and liberate his mother from the abuse. At the Valle house, the police arrive, and Helena storms in and sees Antonio Grajales, her husband’s private bodyguard, injured, and then her son with bloody hands being questioned by a police officer named Sofía Curiel. It is revealed that Claudio is missing.
The Aftermath of Violence Haunts a Family
Helena asks an injured Antonio about Claudio’s whereabouts; however, the bodyguard is on a stretcher and unable to answer. The protagonist sees blood on the floor and the wall and assumes the worst. Octavio intervenes and asks the police to leave, while Helena finds out that the memory card of the hidden camera is missing. Octavio worries about his father and tries to reach out to the Governor for help. Helena desperately looks for Iván, but cannot find him, and also sees that his phone is in the house. Sofía continues to investigate the case and gets a call from the state prosecutor, who asks her to leave the scene, as per Octavio’s request, who prefers to handle it on his own.
It is revealed that Claudio’s first wife had died in a drowning accident at the same place, leading Livia to worry. Helena starts thinking about what could have happened to Iván, making her more worried. As Fernando says he doesn’t remember much, Helena gets a message from Iván saying that he needs to see her soon and that he lost his cell phone. Octavio puts a corrupt police officer called Pablo in charge of investigating his father’s disappearance. Helena reunites with Iván, who narrates that he and her husband exchanged blows, during which the businessman asked him if a person called “Magic” sent him.
An Unexpected Twist Puts Helena in Danger
Helena doesn’t have a clue who Magic is either, and starts worrying if Antonio will reveal something dangerous when he recovers from his injury. Since the memory card is still missing, the lovers assume that Claudio is just missing and could hurt them, but they proceed to have sex. Octavio and the rest of the family worry about the businessman and the Sal y Arena scheme. Livia makes it clear that she wants to find her father at any cost. Despite orders, Sofía Curiel discreetly investigates the case at the Valle house and finds the secret camera. She opens a bag and finds Iván’s fake Javier identity card.
An anonymous source sends Octavio the video of his dad getting intimate with Iván. Sofía finds out that Iván stopped at a browsing café after he was injured and was accessing a dating site. Livia questions Fernando about his actions during her dad’s disappearance, but doesn’t get an answer from the anxious boy. Antonio wakes up at the hospital and tells Octavio that he wasn’t shot by Iván, and that the journalist was introduced to the businessman by Helena. Octavio finds out from his sources that Iván is not a journalist, but a male escort living in Polanco. Meanwhile, Sofía also learns Iván’s true identity at the browsing center. Helena tries to warn Iván, but the Federal police knock at his door.
The escort runs away as the police chase him. Helena drives to rescue her lover, while Sal y Mar’s board of directors questions Octavio about Claudio’s whereabouts. The son lies that his father went to Hong Kong for a business meeting, after which the others in the room refuse to move ahead with a major construction project in the absence of the head of the company. In a shocking twist, Octavio is kidnapped by a strange man at the behest of an individual who had previously expressed that his boss wanted to meet Claudio. Iván is picked up by Fedra, who rescues him from the police. As Helena tries to rush to Ivan’s place to make sense of things, the federal police officers apprehend her, leaving her survival in the balance.
