A Simple Favor: Is Warfield a Real City in Connecticut?

While the saga between Stephanie and Emily continues in ‘Another Simple Favor,‘ the movie reintroduces some familiar stomping grounds from the first movie, such as the city of Warfield. Situated in Connecticut, it serves as the main backdrop to the drama unfurling in ‘A Simple Favor.’ However, it also makes a prominent return in the sequel, underlining the continuity between the two films and how the area evolves with time. With the story moving to Italy because of Emily’s wedding, Warfield’s presence slightly diminishes as we progress further. Still, it remains the most important location in the franchise due to its connection to Stephanie, who is a resident of the city and lives in one of its calmer neighborhoods with her son Miles to keep her company.

Warfield is a Fictional City Vaguely Rooted in Reality

Warfield is a fictional city in Connecticut that appears in Darcey Bell’s eponymous 2017 novel, which serves as the basis for ‘A Simple Favor.’ The book describes the region as a serene and calm environment, ideally suited for a suburban lifestyle. However, the production team working on the film had to use the neighborhoods of Toronto, Ontario, as a stand-in for Warfield. The same applies to its sequel, ‘Another Simple Favor,’ which also features Warfield. Because of Toronto’s diverse locales and blend of historic, modern, and nature-driven sites, it offers a wide array of destinations to choose from when weaving together a world from scratch. This was particularly true in the case of the two black comedy mystery films, which are rife with complicated plot developments amidst a posh and pristine neighborhood.

The film crew utilized different places in and around Toronto to embody Warfield in all its details and massive scope. Filming took place at 7 Ashley Park Road in Etobicoke for Emily’s majestic modern house, which has all sorts of luxurious amenities. The team also shot key scenes at the Varley Art Gallery in Markham, the neighborhood of Unionville, and the Ivy Motel in Mississauga. These shots were stitched together to provide an authentic version of a fictional suburb in Connecticut. Intriguingly, Warfield is the name of many places worldwide, such as a charming, rural village lying on the borders of Ascot and Bracknell in England. It is also the name of a city in Martin County, Kentucky, and the designation of a village in British Columbia.

In the book, Warfield’s distinctly peaceful and tranquil environment gives it a sense of quaintness and charm. The same qualities apply to the film’s version of the city. For the sequel, the production team once again used Toronto as their primary stand-in location for Warfield. Additionally, the facilities of the Cinecittà Studios in Rome, Italy, were used to record several interior scenes set in the region. Production largely took place in Italy for ‘Another Simple Favor,’ making it easier to use the services of places in and around the European nation to bring Warfield to life. While it has a lesser presence in comparison to the Italian locales, it still serves an important role in establishing the continuity from one movie to the next and showing how Stephanie is living her life years after the events of ‘A Simple Favor.’
