Wes Anderson’s Michael Cera Film to be Shot in the UK

Famed filmmaker Wes Anderson’s upcoming film, starring Michael Cera, is slated to be filmed in the United Kingdom. The plot of the untitled film has been kept under wraps for now and details are awaited about the production schedule. However, the filming is expected to commence after the conclusion of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

The UK, where the cast and crew will be heading to begin the shoot, is home to diverse and scenic landscapes, historical landmarks, and a well-established film industry, which make it a preferred choice of filmmakers to shoot a variety of projects. The region has earlier hosted the production of several movies and shows, including ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,’ ‘Red, White & Royal Blue,’ ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,’ ‘The Dark Knight,’ ‘Death on the Nile,’ ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’

Wes Anderson is directing the project based on a script he wrote with Roman Coppola. The two reportedly finished the script before the WGA strike began in May 2023. Anderson is a well-known name in the entertainment industry, renowned for writing and directing the films ‘The French Dispatch,’ ‘Isle of Dogs,’ ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel,’ and ‘Moonrise Kingdom.’ His latest feature release was the 2023 comedy-drama ‘Asteroid City,’ which features an ensemble of Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, and many more. Coppola collaborated with Anderson for several of the latter’s previous films, including ‘The French Dispatch,’ ‘Isle of Dogs,’ and ‘Asteroid City’.

Michael Cera stars in the film in an undisclosed role and he is set to star alongside renowned Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro. Cera gained fame with his portrayal of George Michael Bluth in the sitcom ‘Arrested Development.’ The actor’s other notable performances include Evan in the 2007 buddy comedy film ‘Superbad,’ Scott Pilgrim in the 2010 action-comedy ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,’ and Peter in the 2018 comedy-drama ‘Gloria Bell.’ He also essays the role of Allan in the recent blockbuster ‘Barbie.’

Del Toro is recognized for his roles as Javier Rodríguez in ‘Traffic’ and Jack Jordan in ‘21 Grams.’ He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for both films and ended up winning the same for the former. The actor’s other film credits include ‘The Usual Suspects,’ ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,’ ‘Things We Lost in the Fire,’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He also stars in the Showtime miniseries ‘Escape at Dannemora,’ for which he earned a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
