Helmed by Sean Cisterna, Lifetime’s ‘What Would You Kill For?’ is a crime thriller movie that centers upon Min Duval, who runs a restaurant with her former husband. She also has an adopted daughter, whom she considers the apple of her eye. Her seemingly ideal life takes a turn for the worse when her business partner is found dead in their restaurant, and she is suspected of being involved in his brutal murder. In order to prove her innocence and prevent her adopted daughter from any type of danger, she takes matters into her own hands and embarks on a mission to get to the bottom of the case. While trying to identify the killer responsible for her ex-husband’s murder, she must tread carefully as she can’t trust anyone. Originally titled ‘Flavor of Death,’ the film takes the help of interesting locations and backdrops to authenticate the narrative and bring the realistic story to life.
Where Was What Would You Kill For Filmed?
The shooting for ‘What Would You Kill For?’ was supposedly carried out in Toronto, Ontario. From what we can tell, the principal photography for the Lifetime production took place over the course of a few weeks, seemingly in the second half of 2024. Ontario provides filmmakers with a vast and versatile landscape, which serves as the ideal canvas for them to bring different kinds of projects to life.
Toronto, Ontario
All the pivotal sequences for ‘What Would You Kill For?’ were seemingly shot in and around Toronto, the capital city of Ontario. Popular for being the international center of arts, culture, and business, the city is known for its high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, many of which are possibly featured in the establishing and aerial shots of the thriller movie. Due to the lower cost of production that Toronto provides, it is among the most preferred filming destinations for many filmmakers.
Since its streets and architecture resemble those of several other cities, like Chicago and New York, they make for a versatile production location. It seems that the cast and crew of the Lifetime film took over an actual establishment to shoot the scenes involving the restaurant where the murder takes place. From what we can tell, they also supposedly set up camp at several other sites across Toronto to incorporate exterior and interior shots.
What Would You Kill For is a Work of Fiction
In ‘What Would You Kill For?,’ as soon as Min Duval’s former husband’s dead body is found, the authorities start suspecting her to be involved in the killing. Similarly, in real life, when such cases appear, the victim’s partner or ex-partner is looked at as a possible suspect. Thus, it appears that while penning down the fictional screenplay of the Lifetime thriller, writer Grace Knight kept such factors in mind in order to engrain some sense of reality into the story and its themes.

Although it is Grace Knight’s brainchild, there are various real-life murder cases that might seem quite similar to certain subject matters of the movie. For instance, in November 2022, Rachel Castillo disappeared from her residence in Simi Valley, California, before she was found dead a week later in a remote location in Antelope Valley. Just like in ‘What Would You Kill For?,’ Rachel’s former husband, Zarbab Ali, was the primary suspect who got arrested in Victorville. Although there are similarities between the real-life case and the case dramatized in the film in several aspects, it doesn’t change the fact that the crime movie is the product of the writer’s imagination.
