Rosemary Brings Earnest to Hope Valley

Among the various other projects that Rosemary has found herself shouldering this season, she takes on a brand-new responsibility after Lee takes her to a play production of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest.’ Thus, newly infused with inspiration, she decides to put on a local production of the play herself. However, she soon realizes her vision may have been a tad too ambitious once she sees the talent Hope Valley has to offer. Still, after one too many unsatisfying auditions, she finally finds her star with some help from Elizabeth. As it turns out, Rosemary’s perfect, swashbucklingly bold Jack Worthing has been right under her nose all along in Bill Avery. His charm and previous run-ins with undercover work as a British officer make him an ideal pick for the role.

Although Bill is initially hesitant, he eventually gives in to Rosemary’s whim. Nonetheless, once the time for rehearsals rolls around, the director realizes she has taken on too many responsibilities to handle herself. Consequently, as an excited Ava steps in to save a dialogue read-through, the other woman is forced to acknowledge the shining potential of the alleged heiress. However, Rosemary hasn’t been a fan of Ava since the two had met.

The latter’s pilling bills at the saloon and consistent excuses about her wealthy parents further pique the director’s suspicion. Nonetheless, Rosemary knows it would be impossible for her to handle all the behind-the-stage aspects of the play and tackle the lead female part. Additionally, Ava’s apparent history of performing the same part in a different production makes her the ideal candidate. Therefore, the former actress decides to take a chance on the heiress despite her reservations about her. As such, Rosemary’s plays begin to come together, promising an entertaining show in the town’s future.

Elizabeth and Nathan Attend a Party

Even though Elizabeth and Nathan opt out of any auditions for Rosemary’s play production, the pair still end up needing to brush up their acting skills for their date night. Initially, Elizabeth simply plans a nice night out in Capitol City for a film screening—something Nathan couldn’t be more excited about. However, after the film, the pair end up running into Toddy Davis, the shady estate dealer who may just have a connection to the gold coin Bill and Rosemary are investigating. Toddy easily recognizes Nathan as the businessman he had crossed paths with during a poker game a few nights back.

Therefore, the mountie is forced to return to his undercover persona, Danny. Similarly, Elizabeth also has to play along as Danny DeMarco’s wife, Diane. Inevitably, Toddy and his wife end up inviting the other pair over for a party. Since neither of them has a good enough excuse to turn the invitation down, their night swiftly takes an unexpected. Even so, the couple remain good at improvising on their feet and play the roles of Danny and Diane well enough. Despite the slight hiccup they face when explaining their unprepared meet-cute story, they sell their lies with relative ease. As a result, Toddy opens up to the idea of trusting Danny and extends the idea of a business meeting regarding the sale of some conspicuous gold. Thus, it seems that Nathan and Elizabeth’s date night was successful in more ways than one and could blow open the train robbery investigation.

Lucas and Edie’s Relationship Complicates Further

While Allie’s father takes his trip to Capitol City with Elizabeth, the teenager also makes herself useful around the town. She remains steady with her research into the dwindling wolf population in the National Park, in which she finds added help from Oliver, the Cadet Mountie. Thanks to their previous misadventure in the woods, the duo knows about a meadow in the forest that can be used as the grazing ground by many of the ranchers. This would align with the Park’s shared use agreement with the ranchers while also preserving the ecosystem in the woods without any unexpected variables. Consequently, as soon as the duo figures this out, they decide to share their findings with the Governor. Despite Edwin’s suggestion otherwise, Lucas readily welcomes the teenagers to his office to discuss the issue.

Once Lucas realizes the legitimacy of their research, he takes their maps into account and promises to look into things himself. He follows up on his word shortly afterward as he approaches Edie to discuss the matter of the meadow. Nevertheless, the lawyer seems reluctant to discuss the subject of the meadow. Eventually, she meets with the Governor in the evening under the guise of a friendly catch-up over a game of cards. During this time, she reveals that the meadow has some history attached to it that might make it a difficult topic to deal with. Yet, she remains tight-lipped about any specifics due to attorney-client privileges. Thus, it seems the National Park still isn’t out of the woods—much like Lucas and Edie’s friendship, which is bound to be strained under the upcoming complications.

Fiona Sells Her Barbershop

Fiona’s return to town so far has been a bittersweet experience. Her presence has certainly returned some of the bluster in town. Her influence nudges Hickam and Joseph to fix Lucas and Lee’s estranged relationship, and she even advises Elizabeth to publish her new teaching curriculum ideas. Nevertheless, the fact remains that her arrival in town is for a rather bleak reason. Fiona is considering a proposal from a kind man who is a fitting match for her. Therefore, she wants to sell her old barbershop in Hope Valley to embark on a new beginning.

Yet, saying goodbye to such an integral part of her past is a difficult thing for Fiona. Throughout her life, she has never particularly dreamed of marriage. Even now, her decision to tie the knot has more to do with her social progression, which will help her fight for the suffragette movement. For the same reasons, she remains torn about the entire affair. Nonetheless, with the support of her friends, especially Mei, she is able to face the complications of her situation. Ultimately, she finds a deal for her barbershop and sells the property.
