When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 4 Recap: Dancing Teens

Delightful new developments are on the horizon for Hope Valley residents in Season 12 of the Hallmark romance show ‘When Calls the Heart.’ After the last episode’s revelation about the peculiar gold coin from Yost’s shop, Rosemary and Bill find themselves doing some detective work in the community. Meanwhile, Allie gears up for her seventeenth birthday and wants to throw a dance party. The drastic departure from the status quo that Nathan is used to—treasure hunts and tea parties—compels the Mountie to work through the overwhelming emotions of watching his little girl grow up. Fortunately, Elizabeth—a resident problem solver of sorts by now—is around to provide the Grants with all the support they need. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Hope Valley Learns New Dance Moves

After watching the dreamy new Wyatt break out his dance moves in the cafe, Allie makes up her mind about having a dance party for her upcoming birthday. After all, she has been wanting to do something different with her friends, and nothing screams a teenage party in Hope Valley like a dancing event. However, she’s worried that her dad, Nathan, who is already struggling with accepting that he will no longer be in charge of her party, will freak out even more once he learns she wants to host a co-ed dance function. For the same reason, she keeps it a secret from him even as she and her friends go around town finalizing wardrobe and venue details.

Then there’s the final crucial preparation the teenagers must make before the big event: learning some dance moves. Allie wants to do modern dances—such as the Charleston and Shimmy—at her party to mark her foray into young adulthood. Yet, learning these dances proves to be a bit above her pay grade. However, Elizabeth is more than eager to lend a helping hand, even though she is less than knowledgeable about the topic. As such, while Allie runs around finalizing things for the party, including extending an invitation to the Mountie Cadet, Oliver, Elizabeth seeks out help from her own friends, Rosemary and Mei, to learn the elusive Charleston.

Soon enough, Allie’s secret gets back to Nathan, who finally discovers his daughter’s party plans. This leads to an argument between the pair, in which the Mountie is more disappointed that his daughter would keep secrets from him. Furthermore, he’s also worried that an unchaperoned dance like this could end in someone getting hurt. As it turns out, many of the townsfolk share this concern. Therefore, they arrive in front of Mayor Lee to try and shut down the party. Nonetheless, at that moment, Nathan stands up for Allie and ensures everyone that the teenagers should have a right to celebrate themselves however they want. Ultimately, the party gets a greenlight—under the condition of a chaperone or two. Thus, Elizabeth and her students’ study of The Charleston promises to pay off!

Angela Craves to Connect With Her Community

While Allie’s dance party is generally a source of excitement for the town’s teen population, it informs some insecurity in Angela. Since Angela is blind, she’s worried about how she might look when she dances. This compels her to contemplate other aspects of her life in Hope Valley, where she is the only one who has this disability. Even though everyone from her teacher, Elizabeth, to her father, Pastor Joseph, and her friends are mindful and supportive of her needs, she can’t help but wonder what a kindred community would be like.

For the same reason, Angela has been looking forward to moving away for college, as she plans to attend an establishment specializing in blind students. Initially, when she shares these insecurities with Joseph, he attempts to comfort her by insisting she isn’t different from anyone else. Yet, in doing so, he fails to hear her real problems. Interestingly enough, it’s Henry, his new business partner, who helps him see the error of his way. Consequently, Joseph is able to fix his mistake and truly hear his daughter out.

Perhaps this instrumental conversation will help Joseph understand Angela’s desire to attend a distant university. Although it would mean a goodbye of sorts between the young woman and her hometown, it would also open up brand-new opportunities for her. For now, Joseph helps his daughter with her dance practice, and Elizabeth tries to offer some help by digging out a book about Helen Keller written in Braille. Thus, Angela is able to move past her momentary insecurity as she grows even more sure of what she wants from her future.

Allie’s Party Leads to Some Exciting Revelations

Eventually, after the initial troubles, Allie’s dance party takes place in full force. In the beginning, the teenager can’t help but worry that the event will be a disaster. She’s mostly worried that no one will take the stage, leaving her party woefully danceless. Nonetheless, Oliver offers surprising help in that matter. The brave cadet debuts his moves on the stage, compelling Allie—and soon everyone else to follow. However, sometime through the party, Elizabeth makes a heartbreaking discovery.

Oliver seems to have brought a special present for Allie. Nonetheless, as he’s about to approach her with it, Wyatt swoops in and redirects the young girl’s attention. It’s painfully obvious that Allie has developed a crush on the other boy—something Oliver also deduced. As such, he pockets his gift back and turns away. Therefore, it seems a teenage love triangle is in the works between these three young individuals. Meanwhile, another startling discovery happens on the other side of the party.

Rosemary and Bill have been snooping around to find the owner of a peculiar gold coin for some time now. They believe that the coin can lead them to solve an open case about an infamous train car robbery. Their investigation—starting at Yost’s shop—initially brings them to Molly, who bought a bag of hazelnuts from the shop on the day the coin was left behind. Nonetheless, she asserts she hasn’t spent any gold coin for it. Yet, she finds out the identity of the real spender at the party.

As it turns out, Jed, the salesman who has a budding relationship with Molly, exchanged the cold coin at Yost’s shop. Although it isn’t clear what this means for his connection to the Garrison gang and possibly the robbery, it certainly makes things infinitely more interesting. On the other hand, some revelations are made even outside of Allie’s party. Governor Lucas inadvertently finds himself helping out his possible nemesis, Edie, by reigning in one of the lost pigs from her uncle’s ranch. During this adventure, he finally realizes that the woman is actually unattached and only wears an engagement ring from a previously failed relationship to ward off unwanted attention. Thus, it seems the coast is clear for a possible romance there.
