Hallmark’s ‘A Danish Christmas’ is a holiday romantic comedy that follows Marie, a successful Chicago-based hotel tech executive, who visits her family in Copenhagen to spend Christmas with them. While there, she helps out at her family’s Andersen Inn, where they are expecting a visit and stay from an influential travel writer and journalist named Ryan Miller. When a different Ryan Miller checks into the inn, Marie mistakes him for the journalist and goes to great lengths to make his stay memorable and perfect. As part of his stay, Marie revives the inn’s Christmas tour and prepares an itinerary for Ryan.
When she learns about her mother’s plan to put the inn up for sale after the New Year, Marie is further motivated to impress Ryan and earn a positive review from him so that her mother will change her mind. Although most of the things go south during Ryan’s Copenhagen tour, Marie forms a deep connection with him. She is shocked when the actual journalist arrives at the inn, giving her a second chance to make things perfect when it really matters. The Colin Theys directorial unfolds in Copenhagen during the holidays, with the Christmas decorations and lights reflecting the wholesome tale of romance and new connections.
Where Was A Danish Christmas Filmed?
Since the heartwarming story is set in Denmark, the makers filmed ‘A Danish Christmas’ on location in Denmark. Primarily, shooting took place in Copenhagen, with minor portions being shot in Farum. To capture the authentic beauty of Christmas in Denmark, principal photography was conducted during Christmastime in 2025 over a few weeks. Many local talents were employed by the production, including talent from Panorama Agency and Panorama Academy.
Copenhagen, Denmark
The capital of Denmark — Copenhagen — hosted the production of ‘A Danish Christmas,’ with the production team adding a layer of authenticity by shooting on location. While Marie takes Ryan on a well-curated tour of Copenhagen, a bunch of popular landmarks and places of interest make an appearance, such as the most-visited park in central Copenhagen — King’s Garden, right outside Rosenborg Castle at Øster Voldgade 4A.
Several pivotal sequences were also taped at Amalienborg Palace, home to the royal family. The unique and popular Church of Our Saviour at Sankt Annæ Gade 29 also served as a key filming destination for ‘A Danish Christmas.’ It is known for its climbable external spiral-winding staircase, which provides a scenic view of the city. Other notable spots that feature in the romantic comedy include Kongens Nytorv, the 17th-century waterfront Nyhavn, and the pedestrian shopping area Strøget. As for the scenes involving the family inn, they were shot in and around the former manor house Farumgård, located on Farum Lake in the town of Farum, northwest of Copenhagen.
