An adaptation of Agatha Christie’s eponymous novel, Netflix’s ‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ is a period murder mystery drama series created by Chris Chibnall. The narrative revolves around a lavish house party at a country estate, where numerous guests have gathered for an eventful night. Unfortunately, come morning, Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent realizes that a practical joke has gone murderously wrong when she finds a young guest dead in an upstairs room.
The young aristocrat takes it upon herself to get to the bottom of the case. Using her wits and investigative intuition, Bundle embarks on a journey to uncover the mystery behind the murder, with the help of Superintendent Battle. As she digs deeper into the case, she manages to crack the case wide open, changing her life thereafter. Featuring Mia McKenna-Bruce, Edward Bluemel, Martin Freeman, Helena Bonham Carter, Iain Glen, and Hughie O’Donnell, the whodunnit show is set in 1925 England, adding a sense of grandeur and cultural richness to the suspenseful tale.
Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials Filming Locations
Production on ‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ takes place in England and Spain, particularly in Bristol, Somerset, Lincolnshire, and Ronda. According to reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the whodunnit series got underway in June 2024 and went on for about four months or so before wrapping up around October of the same year. The cultural and historical architecture of England helped the makers to set the period show in the 1920s.
Bristol, England
The shooting of ‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ predominantly took place in and around Bristol, nestled on the River Avon in South West England. The production team placed vintage automobiles at the center of the ceremonial county, particularly on Bridewell Street, to recreate the setting of the 1920s. Furthermore, to maintain period accuracy, the signage on the buildings in the area was covered during the duration of the filming to conceal any markers of the contemporary era. A sequence starring Martin Freeman steering the wheel of a car from the 1920s as Superintendent Battle was shot on the street. It features him (as Battle) proceeding down the street, driving in the direction of a green screen, and ultimately exiting the vehicle.
The authorities reportedly offered full cooperation to the crew in restricting access to Bridewell Street until 6 pm in the evening on one of the days. To prevent locals from breaching the set, barriers were placed along the street starting outside the Rough Trade record store situated exactly at 3 New Bridewell, Nelson Street. For the purpose of filming the series, the cast and crew also utilized the services of The Bottle Yard Studios on Whitchurch Lane in Bristol. Located a few miles from the city centre, the production facility is touted as one of the largest studios in the western part of England.
Alongside 11 fully equipped stages ranging from 7,000 to 22,000 sq ft, spread across two sites, the aforementioned complex also offers a 5,000 sq ft green screen studio, 35,000 sq ft of production offices, and other operations related to the shooting of movies and shows of a wide variety and scale. Over the years, it has assisted in the production of titles such as ‘Inheritance,’ ‘The Killing Kind,’ ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,’ ‘The Outlaws,’ ‘Chloe,’ ‘Sherlock: The Abominable Bride,’ ‘Dirk Gently,’ ‘Five Daughters,’ ‘Inside Men,’ ‘The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies,’ ‘The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box,’ and ‘The Famous Five.’
Somerset, England
Somerset in South West England also doubled up as a shooting location for the murder mystery series. In the ceremonial county, filming was carried out at West Somerset Railway, a 22.75-mile heritage railway line. Furthermore, the crew settled on many spots in the historic city of Bath to serve as filming spots. According to reports, a portion of the taping was conducted at Chapter 22 Roots & Records, a famous record and houseplant store located at 8 Broad Street. Sadly, the award-winning local legend closed its doors for the last time in October 2025. Some scenes were lensed in a cafe on the same street. The cast and crew were also spotted filming near Argyle Street.
Several roads in the area, such as Great Pulteney Street, were temporarily closed to prevent hindrances in the production process and ensure everything went smoothly. Aside from the limited series, Bath has also hosted the filming of movies and shows such as ‘McDonald & Dodds,’ ‘An Unsuitable Job for a Woman,’ ‘Agatha,’ ‘Still Crazy Like a Fox,’ ‘Inspector Morse,’ ‘Unforgotten,’ ‘The Fear,’ and ‘The Girl with a Pistol.’ Aside from Bristol and Somerset, the cast and crew likely also visited Lincolnshire, a rural county within the East Midlands & Yorkshire and the Humber region, to capture a few scenes.
Ronda, Spain
For painting the visual canvas of ‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials,’ the team also headed outside of England, particularly to Spain. To be precise, the crew set up camp in the picturesque city of Ronda in the province of Málaga in the southern part of the country. Part of the Andalusian region, the historic town of Ronda proved to be an ideal backdrop to complement the tense environment of the narrative. Its visually striking landscape, punctuated by narrow alleys, stone bridges, cobblestone streets, grand plazas, historic structures, natural spots, and architectural beauty, further enhanced the visual depth of the setting by lending it an old-world charm. ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,’ ‘Two Undercover Angels,’ ‘Curro Jiménez,’ ‘Maniac Tales,’ ‘Holiday in Spain,’ ‘Black Mirror,’ and ‘Hard Contract’ were also taped in the city.
