Where Was Black Mirror Season 7 Filmed?

Created by Charlie Brooker, Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror’ sheds light on prevalent social issues mainly through the themes of futuristic technology and media. The British sci-fi thriller anthology series is adapted from another horror anthology series — ‘The Twilight Zone.’ In the seventh season, six new stories set in near-future dystopias — ‘Common People,’ ‘Bête Noire,’ ‘Hotel Reverie,’ ‘Plaything,’ ‘Eulogy,’ and ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ — are led by stellar performances from some popular faces and big names in the industry, including Peter Capaldi, Paul Giamatti, Cristin Milioti, Will Poulter, Awkwafina, and Chris O’Dowd. Each episode offers a unique tale told against the backdrop of different futuristic settings, making the narratives all the more engaging and immersive.

Black Mirror Season 7 Filming Locations

‘Black Mirror’ season 7 was reportedly filmed in British Columbia and England, especially in Greater Vancouver, Greater London, Kent, and Surrey. From what we can tell, the shooting for the seventh iteration of the mind-bending show was spread out throughout the year, seemingly starting as early as January 2024. By October of the same year, the taping had seemingly wrapped up entirely. Ally Pankiw, the director of the episode titled “Common People,” expressed gratitude for her crew, saying, “thank you to the best damn crew a tiny girl director could ask for! You’re all a dream and thank you especially to @jdmorden @bobbysteez and all of my HODs. Pankiw Motors for life.”

Greater Vancouver, British Columbia

Helmed by Ally Pankiw, the episode ‘Common People’ was reportedly lensed entirely in Greater Vancouver, seemingly between September and October 2024. As per reports, Bridge Studios at 2400 Boundary Road in Burnaby served as one of the primary production locations. Home to eight studios of varying sizes, the film studio also comprises other necessary amenities such as production offices, makeup rooms, wardrobes, parking spaces, and more.

The cast and crew members were spotted taping several key portions in and around Queen Elizabeth Elementary School at 4102 West 16th Avenue. Moreover, they set up camp in a few parts of Surrey, a city situated south of the Fraser River. To be specific, The Clover Theater, which is temporarily closed as of writing, at 121 East 1st Street in Cloverdale, is another historic site that hosted the production of ‘Black Mirror’ season 7.

Greater London, England

The shooting of two episodes — “USS Callister: Into Infinity” and “Plaything” — took place in Greater London, which comprises London and several of its surrounding areas. It is very much possible that the production team made the most of the region’s popular establishments and landmarks, taping various outdoor scenes with them in the backdrop. Apart from ‘Black Mirror’ season 7, Greater London has hosted the production of multiple notable projects, including ‘The Saint,’ ‘The Fifth Element,’ ‘Doctor Who,’ ‘Body Problem,’ and ‘His Dark Materials.’

Surrey, England

In order to tape the “Hotel Reverie” episode, which features Emma Corrin as Dorothy and Issa Rae as Brandy, the cast and crew set up camp in the ceremonial county of Surrey between March and June 2024. The director of the episode, Haolu Wang, and the rest of the crew members made the most of the facilities of the Shepperton Studios on Studios Road in the village of Shepperton. Being the second biggest film studio in the world, it consists of 31 sound stages, two large backlots, and several amenities, such as a multi-storey car park, meeting rooms, a screening room, catering services, and more.

Kent, England

For shooting purposes, the filming unit of ‘Black Mirror’ season 7 also traveled to the ceremonial county of Kent, where they reportedly shot the “Eulogy” episode, starring Paul Giamatti as Phillip and Patsy Ferran as The Guide. In particular, a few important scenes for the episode were lensed in The Beacon House, located at Tankerton Beach in the town of Whitstable. Furthermore, Herne Bay Pier on Central Parade in the seaside town of Herne Bay served as yet another key filming destination. Interestingly, the outfits for the shoots were sourced from the Yacht Club at 14 Fort Hill in Margate.
