Chris Casiano: Where is the Miami TNT Cop Now?

Helmed by Joe Carnahan, Netflix’s ‘The Rip’ follows Lieutenant Dane Dumars of the Miami Police Tactical Narcotics Team on the most unpredictable raid of his life. With nothing but an ambiguous tip to rely on, he assembles his time for what appears to be a routine search and seizure. However, when the crew ends up finding more money than they could ever imagine, all hell breaks loose. With an immediate lockdown imposed, they have no one to suspect except themselves, and with each passing minute, the web only gets more complicated. However, when the cartel comes knocking, they realize that the only way to survive the night is by outsmarting their enemies, even if it means putting their jobs on the line. Given that the premise of this mystery thriller draws loosely from a real raid in which Carnahan’s friend, Captain Christopher Casiano, participated, fans are naturally curious about how the real Dane Dumars’ life has been since.

Chris Casiano is Now a Miami-Dade Police Captain

Christopher “Chris” Casiano was born to Raymond and Roslyn Buckner, the latter of whom formerly served as a Miami Springs Councilwoman. Chris went on to become a core member of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s TNT, or Tactical Narcotics Team, until its disbandment on June 27, 2014. Chris’ ex-wife, Cindy, is also a police officer, and it is likely that the two met as co-workers. After their marriage, they settled at 400 Block, Swan Avenue in Miami Springs, where they welcomed three children, Logan, Jake, and Hunter Casiano. After TNT, he joined the department’s Homicide Bureau, where he rose to the rank of captain. Chris’ professional life is marked by a string of golden achievements, and over the years, several members of the Casiano family have followed in his footsteps and joined the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Life took a tragic turn in June of 2018, when Chris’ son, Jake William Casiano, was diagnosed with Leukemia, which was followed by three years of constant battle with the disease. Jake’s passing on May 8, 2021, left a hole in Chris’s life, one that can never quite be filled. Still, Chris draws courage from his last memories of his son and the powerful values he left behind. At 43, Chris continues to be a source of inspiration not just for his fellow officers but also for his near and dear ones. It appears that Chris and Cindy parted ways sometime after 2022, and they have chosen to keep their personal lives private. Chris is also a proud lover of dogs and showers immense love on his pets: Gorda, Chunk, Charlie, Lulu, and many others who make the family whole.

Chris’ Behind-the-Scenes Inputs Were Foundational to The Rip’s Story

When he is not channeling his investigative expertise at work, Chris spends his time travelling and capturing sunsets and sunrises, emphasizing the ephemeral moments of beauty that often lie hidden in mundane landscapes. Chris is also a family person through and through, and enjoys making memories with his extended family and friends every chance he gets. While he is constantly affected by Jake’s absence in his life, he continues to feel a deep spiritual link. Faith plays a crucial role in anchoring Chris in his day-to-day life, as well as processing his own emotions.

Chris’ deep friendship with Joe Carnahan meant that Chris was deeply involved in the making of ‘The Rip,’ a film that reimagines one of his real-life police incidents. Having previously worked as an advisor for cop movies such as ‘Bad Boys For Life,’ ‘Copshop,’ and ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die,’ Chris is familiar with the inner workings of movie productions, and this formed a background in his suggestions to Carnahan, who is the director and co-writer of the movie, to add realistic touches to the narrative. Additionally, he also worked with Matt Damon to make his character, Dane Dumars, as authentic as possible. As of writing, Chris continues to be an integral part of the Miami-Dade Police Department, keeping Jake in his heart every day as he continues to move forward.
