With Joe Carnahan at the helm, ‘Copshop’ stars Frank Grillo as a double-crossing con artist named Teddy Murretto and Gerard Butler as a lethal, professional hitman named Bob Viddick, whose mission is to take out the conman. Things become even more complicated when a novice yet smart female officer, Valerie Young, portrayed by Alexis Louder, finds herself in the middle of their cat-and-mouse chase, as Teddy gets himself arrested and locked up in the police station to prevent the hitman from attacking him.

Somehow, Bob also manages to get himself into detention at the same police station. While the assassin hatches a plan to get rid of Teddy, another assassin enters the picture and causes mayhem. In the action thriller, Bob’s life is also threatened as he must finish his mission before things get out of hand. The high-stakes tale primarily unfolds in a small, fictional town called Gun Creek in Nevada, including the police station where the con artist and professional hitman are held up.

Copshop Filming Locations

‘Copshop’ was filmed in Georgia and New Mexico, particularly in Atlanta and Albuquerque. According to reports, principal photography for the Gerard Butler starrer got underway in early October 2020. However, when a few crew members tested positive for COVID-19, the shooting was halted for a couple of days. Elaborating on the same, producer Warren Gotz told Deadline, “We immediately paused production proactively. The safety of our cast and crew is our greatest priority. We are contact tracing everyone in the production at this time. Those who tested positive were isolated from the vast majority of our crew, including our actors and director.” After the sudden and short hiccup, the production went on smoothly for more than a month or so before wrapping up in the third week of November of the same year.

Atlanta, Georgia

A significant chunk of ‘Copshop’ was reportedly lensed in Atlanta, the capital of Georgia. Located among the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the Hollywood of the South lives up to its nickname by providing not only a vast, versatile landscape but also local talent and amenities to filmmakers. In order to shoot most of the interior scenes, especially involving the Gun Creek Police Department, the filming unit utilized the facilities of Shadowbox Studios, formerly known as Blackhall Studios, at 1415 Constitution Road Southeast.

Sprawling across 850,000 square feet, the film studio is home to nine fully soundproofed and air-conditioned sound stages, mill spaces, workshops, production offices, a 3-acre backlot, and the Oval Office set. All these amenities and other services it offers make Shadowbox Studios an ideal filming destination for a wide range of projects. Over the years, the city of Atlanta has hosted the production of many movies and TV shows. Some of the notable ones include ‘Greenland,’ ‘The Naked Gun,’ ‘Civil War,’ ‘Baby Driver,’ ‘Bad Boys for Life,’ ‘Den of Thieves,’ ‘Cobra Kai,’ ‘Ironheart,’ and ‘Echo.’

Albuquerque, New Mexico

For taping the scenes set in the fictional small town of Gun Creek in Nevada, the production team of ‘Copshop’ set up camp in the city of Albuquerque. Also known as the Duke City, it has rugged, secluded terrain that makes it an ideal double for Nevada. Several scenes involving an educational turkey were reportedly filmed in the county seat of New Mexico’s Bernalillo County. Talking about the same, producer Warren Goz told LA Daily Post, “It was quite an amazing experience having a living vulture on set. The beauty of this bird enhanced our film and precipitated the crew to shoot a bunch of selfies with the bird. It was also amazing to see how well the bird was trained and how skilled the trainers were. The experience was one of the more unique ones I have undergone.”
