With Michelle Ouellet at the helm, Lifetime’s ‘Crowning at the Prom’ is a drama movie that centers on an overtly ambitious teenager, Kat Walker, who is looking forward to becoming prom queen and earning an athletic scholarship that would secure her future. While trying to maintain her flawless image and make her single mother, Abigail, proud, her entire world turns upside down when she realizes she is pregnant. Concealing her late-term pregnancy, Kat’s secrets are revealed after an unexpected, shocking night, forcing the mother and daughter to reconsider their ambitions for the future. Inspired by real events, the teenage drama unfolds in and around Kat’s residence and high school, which pose different kinds of threats for the obsessive overachiever.
Where Was Crowning at the Prom Filmed?
‘Crowning at the Prom’ was filmed in its entirety in Ontario, particularly in Hamilton. According to reports, principal photography for the Lifetime production took place in the month of April 2026, over the course of a few weeks. The director, Michelle Ouellet, shared a few words about helming the project. She stated, “It was a true joy to work on this movie — with a wonderful crew + incredibly talented cast. I think this mother/daughter relationship with all its complexities is one we can all relate too.”
Hamilton, Ontario
For the purpose of creating the visual canvas of ‘Crowning at the Prom,’ the production team settled on Hamilton, nestled on the edge of Lake Ontario in the province of Ontario. A prominent shooting spot in the region, several neighborhoods in the port city were used as filming locations to shape the world of Kat, whose ruthless ambition to become the prom queen by any means not only cost her peace of mind but also set off a chain of devastating consequences that risk destroying her future.
The cast and crew also visited the historic community of Ancaster, where they were spotted taping pivotal sequences at one of the houses. In particular, a residential property at 204 Woodview Crescent was decked out to double as the home of one of the characters. It is likely that the shooting was conducted around 1850 King Street East. Aside from the Lifetime production, Hamilton has also hosted the filming of other thriller movies, including ‘Spotlight,’ ‘Finding Forrester,’ ‘The Apprentice,’ ‘Cinderella Man,’ ‘The Queen’s Gambit,’ ‘Heated Rivalry,’ and ‘I Will Find You.’
Crowning at the Prom Cast Details
Anwen O’Driscoll and Danielle Panabaker lead the cast of ‘Crowning at the Prom’ and helped bring the enthralling narrative to life through their impressive performances. Born to director, writer, and playwright Altaire Gural and an actor father, Anwen grew up with deep ties to the film industry. She got into theater from a young age and performed at the Lindsay Little Theatre alongside her three siblings. As for Danielle, she has not only served as a producer for a short film titled ‘Rule Number One,’ but also as a director for five episodes of ‘The Flash.’

Anwen O’Driscoll steps into the role of Kat Walker, the go-getter determined to achieve her goals by hook or by crook. She kick-started her professional journey in theater at a young age and has come a long way. Since her transition into on-screen media, she has showcased her acting abilities and versatility through her appearances in a wide range of movies and shows. Her notable credits include ‘You Can Live Forever’ as Jaime, ‘Bet’ as Riri, ‘October Faction’ as Cathy MacDonald, ‘Burden of Truth’ as Taylor Matheson, ‘Emerald Code’ as Lana, ‘American Gods’ as Sophie, ‘This Time’ as Grace Mitchum as well as the short ‘To Hold the Night,’ in which she plays Nadine.
Danielle Panabaker as Abigail
In the Lifetime production, Danielle Panabaker essays the character of Abigail. Another former child actress turned accomplished performer, she has expanded her career with a you may recognize her from her performance as Jenna in ‘Friday the 13th,’ Layla in ‘Sky High,’ Tick Roby in ‘Empire Falls,’ Phoebe North in ‘Yours, Mine & Ours,’ and Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost/Frost in ‘The Flash’ as well as ‘Legends of Tomorrow,’ ‘Arrow,’ and ‘Supergirl.’ She is also known for her work in ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Grimm,’ ‘Bones,’ ‘Christmas Joy,’ ‘Franklin & Bash,’ ‘Justified,’ ‘Mad Men,’ and ‘Shark,’ among others.
‘Crowning at the Prom’ also features other talented actors in supporting yet critical roles, such as Claire Qute as Hannah Mayer, Bryce Wynter as Simon Andrews, Isaac Kragten as Travis Harding, Christopher Jacot as Craig, Christopher Seivright as Coach Pat, Rhoslynne Bugay as Mandy, and Shaimaa Babiker as Val. In addition, Mahlet Tesfu portrays an ER Nurse, while Andi E McQueen appears as an ER Receptionist.
