Where is Daredevil Born Again Filmed?

Based on the eponymous Marvel Comics character and the revival series of the original ‘Daredevil,’ Disney+’s ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is an action-adventure crime series created by Dario Scarsapane, Matt Corman, and Chris Ord, marking the 13th series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Serving as the continuation of the original series, it revolves around the blind lawyer, Matt Murdock, who goes head to head against a former crime boss named Wilson Fisk.

On the one hand, Matt is busy fighting for justice with the help of his heightened and superhuman abilities. On the other hand, Wilson is on his way to becoming the next mayor of the Big Apple. It is only a matter of time before their past identities and paths emerge, resulting in a collision course that puts Matt in a series of troubles. The story of the legal drama series unfolds against the bustling canvas of New York City, which sits well with the chaos that ensues in its fast-paced narrative and the high-octane fighting sequences.

Daredevil: Born Again Filming Locations

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ was filmed in its entirety in the state of New York, particularly in New York City and Yonkers. Under the working title ‘Out the Kitchen,’ the principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the revival series reportedly got underway in the first week of March 2023. However, a couple of months later, in early May, the production was partly halted due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. Due to the continuation of the strike, the filming was completely shut down in June. After the conclusion of the strike, the filming unit got back to work and resumed shooting for the first season in January 2024. About three months later, in April of the same year, the production was finally wrapped up.

New York City, New York

A major portion of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is lensed on location across New York City, making the most of its diverse landscapes to portray the cold setting associated with the show. According to reports, the crew members do a commendable job in turning the neighborhood of Harlem into the fictional Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, where the Daredevil primarily operates. The ever-so-familiar Williamsburg neighborhood in the Brooklyn borough of NYC also serves as a prominent production location. Interestingly, it also hosted the production of all three seasons of ‘Daredevil.’

The shadows and seemingly eerie corners of the neighborhood represent the dark atmosphere and themes of the spin-off as well. Several key portions of the superhero show are also taped in and around the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street in the Civic Center neighborhood of Manhattan. From what we can tell, the cast and crew members also set up camp at the New York State Supreme Court Building. Located at 60 Centre Street, the building can be seen in the backdrop of various scenes. The production team also took over the Silvercup Studios East at 34-02 Starr Avenue in the Long Island City neighborhood within Queens.

The rooms from Gracie Mansion are recreated by the art department on a sound stage of the film studio. The scenes involving Muse’s lair are also mostly recorded on a set, which was reportedly “a bit heightened” and dark. The film studio is home to six different sound stages, four mill shops, production offices, parking space for over 100 vehicles, multiple hair and makeup rooms, catering spaces, and dressing rooms. All these amenities make it a suitable filming destination for different kinds of projects. In early April 2024, during the final leg of the debut season’s production, several pivotal sequences involving Jon Bernthal and Charlie Cox’s characters were lensed in the Brooklyn borough.

Other Locations in New York

For shooting purposes, the filming unit of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ also travels out of New York City to the city of Yonkers. To be specific, during the shooting process of season 1, additional portions were taped outside the Yonkers City Hall at 40 South Broadway in Yonkers between March 7 and March 10, 2023. Also known as The Central City, Yonkers is located immediately north of the Bronx and is known for Getty Square.
