According to reports, principal photography for the fifth iteration of the romantic series got underway in May 2025. It continued smoothly until the evening of August 21, when director Diego Borella collapsed while filming. The medical staff on set tried to revive him, but he tragically passed away at the scene, likely due to a sudden heart attack. Following the unfortunate incident, production resumed and was completed by the last week of August.

Rome, Italy

Since most of the story is set in Rome, Italy, the production team lensed a significant chunk of the fifth season of ‘Emily in Paris’ on location. According to reports, several streets and neighborhoods, along with multiple establishments, in the capital city were converted into film sets for a few weeks in May 2025. The Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in Quadrato della Concordia served as a prominent production location for season 5. Also known as the Colosseo Quadrato, the iconic building was designed in 1938, representing romanità through its neoclassical design. In the establishing and exterior shots, you might spot numerous landmarks and places of interest, such as the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, St. Peter’s Basilica, Castel Sant’Angelo, and the Pantheon.

Venice, Italy

In the month of August 2025, the cast and crew members of ‘Emily in Paris’ season 5 were spotted taping pivotal sequences in the city of Venice, the capital of Italy’s Veneto region. They took over various picturesque streets and the Grand Canal to record numerous outdoor scenes. The production team also set up camp in and around Hotel Danieli, located at Riva degli Schiavoni, 4196, where director Borella collapsed on set.

Additional portions for the fifth round of ‘Emily in Paris’ were also shot in the capital of France — Paris. Various familiar streets and establishments feature in the scenes as Emily revisits the places and people close to her heart. The City of Light is home to many popular landmarks and monuments, including the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, the Palais Garnier, and more, some of which are likely featured in the backdrop of several outdoor sequences.
