Based on the ITV series titled ‘Doc Martin’ created by Dominic Minghella, Fox’s ‘Best Medicine’ is a medical comedy drama series developed by Liz Tuccillo. The narrative centers on an extraordinary surgeon named Dr. Martin Best, who has a successful career in Boston, Massachusetts. However, he decides to leave it all behind and open a small practice in a quaint East Coast fishing village, where he used to spend summers in his childhood. Serving as the general practitioner of the town, his socially awkward personality, rude mannerisms, and personal phobias make it difficult for him to be on good terms with the locals.
As a result, Dr. Martin deems it best to alienate the idiosyncratic town and lead a solitary life. However, despite his best efforts to avoid any conflict, he constantly finds himself in the middle of feuds and personal issues, forcing him to confront his deep-seated psychological issues and phobias. Featuring Josh Charles, Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, and Annie Potts, the hilarious tale of the brilliant surgeon unfolds in the picturesque fishing village, particularly in and around his office and residence.
Best Medicine Filming Locations
The shooting for ‘Best Medicine’ takes place in the State of New York, particularly in Orange County and Dutchess County. According to reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the comedy series got underway in August 2025 and went on for about four months before wrapping up in December of the same year. One of the cast members, Hilary Greer, took to social media when the filming for season 1 concluded. She stated, “So grateful. So proud. So lucky. Nothing happens without an incredible first team and an equally incredible second team — we love our 2nd team ❤️ This show was made with heart, hustle, and the best people.”
Orange County, New York
To paint the visual canvas of ‘Best Medicine,’ the production team settled on several locales in Orange County in New York. Specifically, filming took place in a few spots in and around Cornwall. A residential street in the town was decked up to reflect the setting for the Fox production. According to reports, spots near the edge of Mineral Springs Road, particularly on Angola Road, were utilized for filming some scenes as the team set up camp outside a residential property. Highland Avenue, as well as the charming riverfront village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, also served as one of the shooting sites for the heartfelt medical-themed comedy-drama show.
Located on the west bank of the Hudson River, Newburgh was also chosen as a filming location. The slumber-party sequence set in the school was captured in the city. Certain scenes were shot at one of the Choice Stages at 1 Corwin Court, Suite 300A. Over the years, Newburgh has also hosted the production of several other movies and television shows. Some of the titles that feature the idyllic charm of the region are ‘Poker Face,’ ‘Mr. Deeds,’ ‘The Four Seasons,’ ‘Super Troopers,’ ‘Nobody’s Fool,’ and ‘Blackjack: The Jackie Ryan Story.’ From what we can tell, additional filming reportedly occurred in Rockland County.
Dutchess County, New York
A portion of the filming of ‘Best Medicine’ was conducted in Dutchess County at the heart of the Hudson River Valley in New York. For the purpose of filming, the team ventured into the picturesque hamlet of New Hamburg, nestled along the Hudson River in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The cast and crew were also spotted shooting around the New Hamburg train station. Filming was also carried out at the New Hamburg Yacht Club, a waterfront establishment that technically lies in New Hamburg, but the address is 5 Water Street, Wappinger Falls. A few scenes were lensed at Wappingers Falls, a village that spans parts of Poughkeepsie and Wappinger. The 301-acre Bowdoin Park, located at 85 Sheafe Road, also doubled up as a filming spot.
