Where Was Prime Video’s G20 Filmed?

Helmed by Patricia Riggen, Prime Video’s ‘G20’ takes us on an action-packed ride with the reins inadvertently falling in the hands of US President Danielle Sutton. This happens at the titular summit, where 20 world leaders have gathered to discuss and solve an alarming crisis. It is supposed to be one of the most secure events on the planet, but that thought changes very soon after the event is gatecrashed by a gang of men with nefarious intentions. They intend to reset the world’s financial markets and make a statement.

Daniella Sutton takes charge, using her combat skills from her time in the army to her advantage. However, she shares a past with Rutledge, the leader of the terrorist group, which makes her his number one target. She must evade capture and find a way to prevent the men from wreaking further havoc and executing ‘Project Deep Fake.’ Sutton, thus, embarks on a high-stakes mission to find the truth while ensuring the safety of the world leaders and her family, who have come with her to the city. The summit takes place in Cape Town, with large-scale set pieces becoming the labyrinth that Sutton must navigate to get the better of her enemies.

G20 Filming Locations

‘G20’ was filmed entirely in South Africa, particularly in Cape Town, the South African legislative capital. Principal photography for the action movie was set to begin in July, but the SAG-AFTRA strike halted it. Once the strike ended in November, the shooting finally began in the second half of January 2024. It wrapped up in the first week of March of the same year after an extensive and packed schedule. For the entire cast, production was as much work as a trip to one of the world’s most exotic places, replete with flora, fauna, and architecture.

Western Cape, South Africa

All the pivotal sequences for ‘G20’ were reportedly lensed on location in the beautiful city of Cape Town, in the Western Cape on the country’s southwestern coast. While most of the story takes place inside the summit venue, multiple scenes were shot outdoors. Cape Town has numerous mesmerizing locations, and the production team incorporated many of them to paint the visual canvas of the film. The Santé Wellness Retreat & Spa, located at La Bella Vita Wine Estate on Simonsvlei Road in the town of Paarl, served as an integral shooting site. Meanwhile, pivotal sequences were also taped at the Lord Charles Hotel, at the Corner of Broadway Boulevards and Main Road in Somerset West.

The Western Cape, with its affluent suburbs, waterfronts, harbors, and the Atlantic Ocean coastline, was used for establishment shots, stressing the region’s significance in the narrative. The church scenes at the beginning of ‘G20’ were shot at St. George’s Cathedral, located at 5 Wale Street in the City Centre. Cape Town’s top-tier production facilities make it an apt location for international projects. It offers specialized crews, state-of-the-art studios, over 5000 filming spots, and the ability to double as a foreign landscape at a much lower cost. All this has helped the city grow in prominence as a global hub. Therefore, it is no surprise that the production team of ‘G20’ used the production facilities and the breathtaking locations to enhance the visuals and add a layer of authenticity to the summit arc.
