Inspired by real-life cases and the Innocence Project Brasil, Netflix’s ‘Habeas Corpus’ is a Brazilian legal drama series created by Leonardo Moreira, Luiz Villaça, and Donna Oliveira. The narrative follows a well-respected and popular law professor and former criminal defense attorney named Inez, who revisits the case of an incarcerated individual who claims he was wrongfully convicted of a crime he didn’t commit, along with a group of her students.
While Inez and her students try to prove the convict’s innocence, she is unaware that her brightest student, Marina, is deeply connected to the case and to Inez herself. Driven by the pursuit of righting a past injustice that affected her family, Marina takes extreme measures. However, with time, the group unearths some deeply buried secrets, unraveling various aspects of Inez’s life. The crime show is set in São Paulo, with its modern architecture and commotion making regular features throughout the narrative.
Habeas Corpus Filming Locations
‘Habeas Corpus’ is filmed in its entirety in Brazil, specifically in the state of São Paulo. From what we can tell, principal photography for the Netflix production commenced around early December 2025 and continued for a few months before wrapping up around late February 2026. Talking about her experience on the first day of the set, Any Gabrielly, who portrays Marina, stated, “I was incredibly nervous—I thought I’d forgotten how to read and was going to faint in front of all these idols who had suddenly become my colleagues. It was an amazing experience.”
São Paulo, Brazil
Situated in the Southeast Region of Brazil, the state of São Paulo served as the primary production location for Netflix’s ‘Habeas Corpus.’ The filming unit made the most of the state’s vast and versatile landscape to bring the suspenseful story to life. They seemingly took over a university campus to shoot scenes set at the college, where Inez teaches law. The exterior of the Taubaté Prison, a high-security correctional facility located in the city of Taubaté, also seemingly doubled as the prison where the convict is incarcerated. It is likely that the indoor scenes depicting the prison were shot at a film studio situated in São Paulo.
The production team also reportedly set up camp across the state capital, São Paulo. From the looks of it, multiple outdoor scenes were shot around the Viaduto do Chá, which crosses the Vale do Anhangabaú region. In the establishing shots, you might spot numerous buildings and landmarks located in the city, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady Assumption and Saint Paul, Independence Park, Obelisk of São Paulo, and the Altino Arantes Building.
