The Jason Bourque directorial, Hallmark’s ‘Amazing Winter Romance,’ acquaints us with a creative and talented journalist named Julia, who is known for writing motivational stuff. Lately, she feels lost, and the same has been reflected in her articles. In an attempt to rekindle her writing spirit and find inspiration, she visits her home and instantly feels welcome. There, she learns that her childhood friend, Nate, has built a snow maze, inspiring her to write a piece that her boss loves.
As Julia catches up with Nate, she feels a spark that makes her reluctant to head back to her life in the city. Navigating the maze of true love, her heart is broken when she sees him on a date with someone else. With a strong reason to return to the city, she is clinging to the hope that Nate makes her stay. The romantic comedy film uses the maze as an additional character as it symbolizes Julia’s feelings of being lost and her finding true love at the end of it.
Where Was Amazing Winter Romance Filmed?
‘Amazing Winter Romance’ was filmed entirely in Manitoba, primarily in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region. After a few weeks of location scouting, the principal photography for the Hallmark production got underway on March 7, 2019, and wrapped up by the end of the same month. The director was amazed to be working with his talented cast and crew members and had a wonderful time in the Canadian Province.
Winnipeg Metropolitan Region, Manitoba
All the pivotal sequences for ‘Amazing Winter Romance’ were lensed in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region, formerly known as the Manitoba Capital Region and the Winnipeg Capital Region. Situated in the Red River Valley, the metropolitan area is centered around the eponymous city, which is the primary production location of the film. The filming unit set up camp in different areas of the capital of Manitoba, Winnipeg, to shoot indoor and outdoor scenes against suitable backdrops.
One of the pivotal sequences involving the two protagonists at a croissant shop was taped inside Le Croissant at 276 Tache Avenue in Winnipeg. The cast and crew members were also spotted recording a few portions on a frozen river. In order to shoot the snow maze scenes, they headed south of Winnipeg and took over an actual snow maze — A Maze in Corn. Situated at 1351 Provincial Road 200 in Saint Adolphe, the world’s largest snow maze also provides bonfires, sleigh rides, slide-down Snow Mountain, and a barn where you can warm yourself up.
During a conversation with TV Goodness, Jessy Schram shared her experience of shooting in an actual maze. She stated, “It was really neat to work in an actual maze and (see that) the people who built it have so much love and respect and care for it. It was a really neat setting to be able to film it and (work) in something that’s real instead of pretending that it’s real. That was a treat. All of these (snack) stations exist in this maze, too. It was that big. I thought (that was something) we were doing for the movie (but it was real). That was really sweet.” She also revealed that they shot a lot of scenes when the temperature was in negative degrees.
