With Mel Damski at the helm, Hallmark’s ‘Moonlight in Vermont’ is a romantic comedy movie that revolves around Fiona Rangely, a successful real estate broker based amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City. When her boyfriend, Nate, breaks up with her out of the blue, she is taken aback and heads to her family’s Vermont Inn for a much-needed break. As she re-evaluates her life and decisions, her peace and quiet are interrupted by the arrival of Nate at the Inn along with his new girlfriend, Haley.
Desiring him back, she asks the charming chef Derek to be her pretend boyfriend for a week, planning to make Nate jealous. Inevitably, as Fiona and Derek play pretend for a few days, they end up falling in love. As the protagonist moves away from her fast-paced life in NYC to the quaint village in Vermont, she gets a chance to reflect on her life and find love.
Where Was Moonlight in Vermont Filmed?
The entire production of ‘Moonlight in Vermont’ was carried out in British Columbia, especially in Greater Vancouver. With ‘Curveball’ as the working title, the principal photography for the Hallmark film got underway on January 4, 2017. After almost three weeks of shooting, filming was concluded in the same month, on January 23. Despite being set in the spring, the makers shot the movie when the streets were covered in about three feet of snow.
Greater Vancouver, British Columbia
For shooting purposes, the production team of ‘Moonlight in Vermont’ set up camp in Metro Vancouver, a metropolitan area comprising the eponymous city and the surrounding sites. From what we can tell, the city of Vancouver doubled as New York City for the opening scenes of the movie. The similar bustling streets and tall skyscrapers make it easier for Hollywood North to represent several American cities, including the Big Apple.
After her breakup, Fiona moves to her family’s inn in Vermont. In reality, the filming unit utilized the quaintness of Langley City and made it stand in for a Vermont village. To be specific, the property located at 8419 224 Street in Langley City served as The Inn, where Fiona’s romance with Derek unfolds. A few important portions were also recorded in and around Porter’s Bistro Coffee & Tea House at 21611 48 Avenue in Langley Township.
In an interview with Pop Culture Principle, Lacey Chabert was asked to share any funny stories from the set of ‘Moonlight in Vermont.’ She revealed, “The movie was originally intended to take place in Spring but there was about three feet of snow in Vancouver at the time we filmed! The show must go on, so we just had to roll with it. While we didn’t try to hide the snow, we tried to not act like we were freezing. We also added some dialogue about how Vermont was having an unusually snowy spring! Typically the Christmas movies are filmed in summer so you are sweating while trying to act cold so this was a bit of the opposite scenario.”
