Hulu’s ‘Are You My First?’ is a dating reality series that follows a group of 21 young individuals who are brought together at a tropical resort, where they hope to not only explore physical connections but also find the one, all without judgment. What makes this social experiment a bit unique from the rest is the fact that the contestants are virgins who have yet to explore intimacy. Now, they must go on romantic dates with others and indulge in challenges, while navigating their needs and searching for their better half. Hosted by Colton Underwood and Kaitlyn Bristowe, the drama between the contestants unfolds mostly in a luxurious resort surrounded by the scenic views of the ocean.
Are You My First? Filming Locations
‘Are You My First?’ is filmed in Costa Rica, particularly in Guanacaste Province. According to reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the dating reality show took place over the course of several weeks in the summer of 2024. Officially known as the Republic of Costa Rica, the nation is home to plenty of beaches and exotic destinations, making it an ideal filming site for different kinds of projects, including the Hulu production.

A majority of ‘Are You My First?’ was lensed in the Guanacaste Province, which is named after the national tree of the country. Situated along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, the province consists of numerous resorts and hotels along the coastal areas. One of them that was turned into a film set for the shooting of the reality show is Villas Playa Samara Beach Front-All Inclusive Resort, which is situated near the Samara Beach. It is home to 115 deluxe rooms and spacious villas, allowing the guests to relax and rejuvenate while enjoying the seaside views. Plenty of these interior spaces were reportedly utilized for taping pivotal sequences. Besides accommodation, the luxurious property also offers plenty of amenities, including a gift shop, a couple of restaurants, an entertainment room, a swimming pool, and a spa.
They also provide wedding and honeymoon packages for couples looking to make their occasions more special. It seems that another hotel near the Samara Beach, the Azura Beach Resort, hosted the production of ‘Are You My First?’ for a few portions. Consisting of 75 suites of different sizes by the sea, the hotel also provides various activities and private tours to the guests, including sea life adventure tour, Carrillo horseback riding, ATV jungle tour, Costa Rican safari, surf lessons, and more. The contestants also spent quite a significant amount of time on Samara Beach, as they conversed and bonded with each other. Given the diversity of Guanacaste Province, its tourist attractions include land, water, volcanoes, mountains, and coastal ecosystems.
