Girl in the Cellar: Filming Locations and Cast Details

With Robert Adetuyi at the helm, Lifetime’s ‘Girl in the Cellar’ revolves around a single, overbearing mother named Rebecca, who resorts to some questionable methods to keep her daughter, Lory, in check. With the latter making bad choices time and again, Rebecca naturally becomes concerned for her daughter. When the mother learns that Lory has been dating a guy behind her back, she locks her in their basement so as to prevent her from making more wrong choices. However, Lory is unaware of the fact that Rebecca was also held captive in the same cellar by her abusive father several years ago.

In a way, the single mother is unconsciously repeating the same traumatic pattern that she was once a victim of. As time passes by, Lory’s friends and neighbors begin asking questions about her whereabouts. Although Rebecca makes up a story of her disappearance, she is scrutinized as she becomes a prime suspect in the case of her daughter’s disappearance. Inspired by real events, the thriller movie mostly unfolds in the confined space of Rebecca’s family house, especially the cellar, making it an additional character in the narrative.

Girl in the Cellar Filming Locations

‘Girl in the Cellar’ was filmed entirely in the westernmost province of British Columbia, especially in the city of Burnaby. Principal photography for the Lifetime production took place over the course of a few weeks in the month of May 2025. The cast and crew members had a lot of fun during the shooting and returned home with memories and friendships they’ll cherish.

Burnaby, British Columbia

All the pivotal sequences for ‘Girl in the Cellar’ were reportedly taped in Burnaby, situated in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland region. In order to tape several indoor and outdoor sequences involving Rebecca’s house, they supposedly took over one of the residential neighborhoods in Burnaby and transformed one of the properties into a film set for a few weeks. As for the scenes involving the cellar where Rebecca keeps her daughter, Lory, captive, they were seemingly recorded on a sound stage in one of the film studios located in and around the city, such as Eagle Creek Studios, Bridge Studios, Vancouver Film Studios, and Mammoth Studios.

Although Burnaby is a big city, it still possesses a small-town charm, making it perfect for Lifetime films. Given the city’s easy accessibility, abundance of green spaces, and urban centres, it serves as an ideal filming site for all kinds of projects, including ‘Girl in the Cellar.’ The city’s locales have been featured in numerous movies and TV shows over the years. Some of the notable ones include ‘Locked,’ ‘The Butterfly Effect,’ ‘Bad Times at the El Royale,’ ‘The Haunting of Hill House,’ ‘The Killing,’ and ‘The Man in the High Castle.’
