A Cooper Harrington directorial, Lifetime’s ‘My Amish Double Life’ is a mystery thriller movie that centers upon a young Amish woman named Emma, who recently lost her father under mysterious circumstances. In order to explore the world outside of the Amish confines, she decides to lead a double life. In the eyes of her mother, Mary, she pretends to be an obedient Amish girl, but behind her back at night, she sneaks out into the English world with her friend, Rebecca. Exposed to the real world for the first time, the two women explore various places and go to clubs where they flirt with young men. When Emma crosses paths with Heath, she almost instantaneously falls in love with him.
Heath invites her over to his house, but he is forced to leave her alone there when he is faced with a work emergency in another city. While she takes a tour of the house filled with modern amenities, her world turns upside down as she comes across a dead body in the kitchen. Although she manages to return to her community, the investigation leads the detectives straight to her doorstep. Now, Emma must take matters into her own hands and get to the bottom of the case. The protagonist’s double life is presented visually through the contrasting settings of the peaceful Amish community and the loud “English” world.
