The Lies We Bury: Filming Locations and Cast Details

An adaptation of Virginia Smith’s novel ‘Guilty Secrets,’ Lifetime’s ‘The Lies We Bury’ is a mystery thriller movie co-written and directed by Lindsay Hartley. The narrative revolves around a young and determined attorney named Rylee Kerrigan, who fails to secure a job at a reputed big-city law firm. Instead, she is forced to settle for a small-scale pro bono law firm, which turns out to be a turning point not only in her career but also in her life.

As she goes through the dusty old files, Rylee comes across a 25-year-old case in which an innocent woman was convicted of a crime. Taking up the challenge to free her, the lawyer uncovers some dark secrets that the real perpetrators prefer to keep buried. In order to tackle the life-threatening dangers along the way, she takes the help of her boss’ charming grandson, Scott Stackhouse, who has secrets of his own. Although the town where the story unfolds seems to be peaceful, it holds a criminal past and, thus, acts as an additional character in the narrative.

Where Was The Lies We Bury Filmed?

‘The Lies We Bury’ was filmed entirely in Ohio, primarily across the city of Harrison. According to reports, principal photography for the Lifetime production got underway in April 2024 under the working title ‘Guilty Secrets’ and continued for a couple of weeks before getting wrapped up in early May of the same year. With the premiere date of the movie approaching, one of the cast members, Kathy A. Bates, reminisced on her time on set.

She said, “This was such a great set to work on. Great director, crew and actors. I actually auditioned for 3 roles for this movie and they cast me for a different role. So cool to see who they cast for the other roles (and they did a great job casting)!!! I got to be in a scene I auditioned for and the actress nailed it (@reneekrapff ). It was my second movie where @dougnoble was the male lead. I hope there’s more. I love seeing more movies filming in Ohio! What a great experience!”
