Where Was Netflix’s Love and Wine Filmed?

Adapted from the Brazilian movie ‘Ricos de Amor’ directed by Bruno Garotti and Anita Barbosa, Netflix’s ‘Love and Wine’ is a South African romantic comedy movie that centers on Ovee, a rich and privileged young man whose father, Sityebi, owns a winery. Despite belonging to a wealthy family, he considers his personality to be more than that. With the help of his friend and driver, Nathi, he embarks on a journey to figure out if true love can be influenced by social barriers.

While Ovee tries to land an internship at his father’s winery, he crosses paths with a beautiful medical student named Amahle, who comes from humble beginnings, unlike him. As he finds himself romantically inclined towards her, he conceals his posh background and pretends to be poor in order to earn her love. Meanwhile, Nathi falls in love with Lena, the winery’s manager. Starring Ntobeko Sishi, Masali Baduza, Thandolwethu Zondi, Thando Thabethe, and Bongile Mantsai, the Amanda Lane directorial features contrasting settings of the bustling city and the countryside where the winery is located, highlighting two different lifestyles through the visuals.

Love and Wine Filming Locations

‘Love and Wine’ was reportedly filmed in its entirety in South Africa, particularly in the Western Cape province. From what we can tell, it is likely that the principal photography took place in late 2024 or early 2025. Thando Thabethe shared her experience of the set on social media ahead of the premiere, stating, “Listen when I say the BEST and most hilarious time on this set, I’m not exaggerating!!!”

Western Cape, South Africa

‘Love and Wine’ was taped extensively in the Western Cape on the southwestern tip of the continent. From rugged coastline to renowned wine estates to rich architectural heritage, the province is home to several picturesque locations that complement the narrative’s tone. The production team selected a few spots in the vibrant suburb of Camps Bay in Cape Town to tape some sequences. Filming also took place at Camps Bay Beach, the pristine white sand beach with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as a bustling strip.

Dawn Villa in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town served as a shooting site for a portion of the film. Situated in the upper part of the neighborhood of Constantia, the luxurious getaway home proved to be a perfect spot to create the wine country aesthetic of the film. The cast and crew of the Netflix production also visited Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands District. Staying true to its title, the production team set up camp at Quoin Rock Wine Estate, located at 7600 Knorhoek Road in the town. The Cape Winelands is a renowned wine-producing destination worldwide, making it a natural choice for the team to select it as a filming site for ‘Love and Wine.’

Sharing some insights about the production process in an interview, Thando Thabethe expressed, “Firstly, we were in Cape Town for months on end. We were shooting at a wine farm. Usually you only get to enjoy that for like an afternoon. We were there every day, child. So that was really nice…” Echoing the sentiment, N’kone Mametja opened up about the best part of filming in Cape Town. With much enthusiasm, she exclaimed, Oh my gosh, this one particular time when we were on set in the film, there’s like a colour festival and there’s so much colour involved… It was the best time. That was my favourite.” All in all, the charming backdrop that the team settled for not only enhances the visual appeal but also seamlessly fits the theme of the celebration of romance.
