Where Was Madea’s Destination Wedding Filmed? All Shooting Locations

Written and directed by Tyler Perry, Netflix’s ‘Madea’s Destination Wedding’ is the 13th film in the ‘Madea’ cinematic universe, with Perry reprising the role of the titular character yet again. The romantic comedy drama movie follows Madea and her great-grandniece, Tiffany, who shocks the entire family by announcing that she is engaged to her new boyfriend, Zavier, who is a rapper she met on a yacht, and that the two are tying the knot in a couple of weeks in the Bahamas. With the entire family attending the destination wedding, tensions arise as Tiffany’s father, Brian, is not convinced that Zavier is the right man for his daughter.

On top of that, Tiffany also casts doubt on her husband-to-be, while her mother, Debrah, acts strangely throughout the vacation. As the wedding approaches, its legitimacy is questioned more and more by everyone. Alongside Perry, the comedy film stars other talented actors, including Cassi Davis Patton, David Mann, Tamela Mann, Taja V. Simpson, Diamond White, and Jermaine Harris. Throughout the narrative, the tropical visuals constantly complement the holiday vibe of the story, which unfolds mostly in the Bahamas.

Madea’s Destination Wedding Filming Locations

‘Madea’s Destination Wedding’ was shot in Georgia, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic, particularly in Atlanta, Paradise Island, and La Romana. According to reports, principal photography for the comedy film got underway in January 2024 and went on for several weeks before getting wrapped up in early March of the same year. From what we can tell, the cast and crew had a lot of fun on set as they brought the chaotic adventures of the the Simmons family to life.

Atlanta, Georgia

Many pivotal sequences for ‘Madea’s Destination Wedding’ were lensed in the city of Atlanta, the capital of Georgia. To be specific, the production team set up camp in the filmmaker’s namesake film studio — Tyler Perry Studios. Situated at One Tyler Perry Studios Way (also listed as 315 Deshler Street Southwest) in Atlanta, the facility provided its amenities and sound stages to the cast and crew members of the movie, reportedly in the month of January 2024. With a total of 12 different state-of-the-art sound stages, the film studio is spread across a 330-acre lot on the historic Fort McPherson site and is considered one of the largest production facilities in the nation.

The filming complex also spans approximately 200 acres of lush greenery and has a multi-purpose backlot that’s ideal for the creation of a wide variety of productions. Over the years, Tyler Perry Studios has extended its services to numerous movies and television shows, ranging from drama to comedy to thrillers. ‘Coming 2 America,’ ‘Meet the Browns,’ ‘Sistas,’ ‘The Family That Preys,’ ‘The Haves and the Have Nots,’ ‘Love & Basketball’ are just some of the popular titles created in the premises of the facility.

Paradise Island, Bahamas

As the Simmons family embarks on a trip to the Bahamas for Tiffany’s destination wedding, it is only natural that the filming actually took place in the Caribbean at the northwestern tip of the West Indies. For the purpose of filming, the cast and crew visited the renowned Atlantis Paradise Island, a 154-acre oceanside casino resort on Paradise Island, not far from Nassau. The taping of a significant chunk of the sequences set in the resort in the film was actually conducted in the global tourist destination. It is famed for its magnificent architecture, unique dining experience with a variety of cuisines, exquisitely designed rooms, stunning decorative embellishments, the Aquaventure Waterpark and other amenities.

La Romana, Dominican Republic

The team of ‘Madea’s Destination Wedding’ also chose the city of La Romana, the capital city of the eponymous southeastern province in the Dominican Republic. It appears that a few scenes were shot at Casa de Campo Resort and Villas, an ultraluxe retreat at Carretera La Romana – Higuey Highway. Spanning 7,000 lush acres, the 4-star resort boasts 3 Pete Dye-designed championship golf courses, dazzling private pools and beaches, gourmet dining options, wellness amenities, a full-service Marina, a vast array of watersports and other activities, thus making it an ideal choice to stand in for the luxurious backdrops in the film. To further paint the visual canvas and infuse the tropical vibe into the family drama, the production team likely visited other spots in the Dominican Republic.
