Adapted from the popular eponymous American High Shorts web series, Netflix’s ‘Minimum Wage’ is a mockumentary comedy series created by Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps. The narrative centers on a group of struggling teenagers employed at a local pizza shop called The Slice Club, earning minimum wage. While managing to run the pizzeria, they are overwhelmed by navigating their complicated school life, power-tripping employers, and low salaries. Despite the stakes being relatively low, the pressure that the teenagers feel is immense due to the rush in the pizza shop. The sitcom encapsulates the tension the young employees feel as the fictional pizzeria functions as a pressure cooker, with its claustrophobic setting serving as one of the comic tools.

Production on ‘Minimum Wage’ is conducted in the State of New York, specifically in Liverpool and Syracuse. According to reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the sitcom seemingly commenced around April 2026 and continued for about three months before wrapping up in the first week of June of the same year. One of the cast members, Julia DeCesare, took to social media after the conclusion of the shoot and shared a few words about her experience. She said, “I spent the last five months in Upstate, New York making a tv show with my friends, some of whom you know and some I just met. It was extremely fun, challenging, educational, and dreamlike. To use the word lucky is the understatement of an understatement. Thank you to every person involved who made the show the center of their attention for the entire 64 (!) day shoot.”

Liverpool, New York

A major chunk of ‘Minimum Wage’ was lensed in the lakeside village of Liverpool, situated in New York State’s Onondaga County. The production team took over the permanently closed Limp Lizard Bar & Grill at 201 1st Street in Liverpool and transformed it into the fictional pizzeria, The Slice Club. The production company, American High, purchased the property in March 2026, reportedly for $515,000, before utilizing it as the primary production location for the comedy series.

As per reports, due to the signage and decor of the set, many local residents believed it to be a real-life pizzeria and walked on set during the shooting process. During a conversation with Syracuse, one of the cast members, Hyde Healy, opened up about his love for Liverpool. He stated, “I really love the Village of Liverpool, especially living here. It’s like a small town, sort of village feel. It’s cool to be driving around and you’ll see, like, kids with fishing poles, riding their bikes, going on some adventure or something.”

Syracuse, New York

Several pivotal sequences for the mockumentary series were also taped in the city of Syracuse. Also known as the Salt City, it is the county seat of Onondaga County. During the shoot, the cast and crew members were spotted recording many key portions on the city’s streets and neighborhoods, which were turned into film sets. Syracuse has hosted the production of numerous other films, such as ‘Pizza Movie,’ ‘Slap Shot,’ ‘On the Count of Three,’ ‘Big Time Adolescence,’ ‘Banana Split,’ ‘Looks That Kill,’ and ‘God Bless America.’
