The second spin-off of the original ‘Suits’ and the creation of Aaron Korsh, NBC’s ‘Suits LA’ is a legal drama series that centers upon a former New York prosecutor named Ted Black, who now owns a reputed law firm called the Black Lane Law in the City of Angels. In his agency, which specializes in criminal and entertainment law, Ted works with different kinds of attorneys who struggle to separate their personal lives from professional ones. As their loyalties towards the law firm and its owner are tested, Ted’s past slowly sneaks up on him and begins to haunt him. The streets lined up with palm trees and the modern skyline of Los Angeles, consisting of giant skyscrapers, fill up most of the backdrops, elevating the level of authenticity of the story.
Suits LA Filming Locations
‘Suits LA’ is largely filmed in California, with just the pilot episode being shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, The first episode was reportedly filmed over the course of a couple of weeks in the spring of 2024, from April 8 to April 23. After getting picked up by NBC, the filming unit moved the production to Los Angeles, where they completed the rest of the taping. Ultimately, the official principal photography for the inaugural iteration got underway in November 2024 and was scheduled to wrap up five months later, in April 2025.
Vancouver, British Columbia
Following the pattern of the original ‘Suits,’ which was also mostly shot in the Great White North, the production team of ‘Suits LA’ decided to film the pilot in the country. Though the cast and crew spent just a few weeks in the port city in the westernmost province of British Columbia, they managed to capture the beauty of its lush greenery, picturesque horizon, and the beautiful blend of contemporary and old-world architecture the city boasts.
From the breathtaking mountain, oceanic, and coastal views to the urban cityscape, Vancouver has something for everyone. It is due to this versatility and a few other factors that it served as a stand-in for the sprawling Southern Californian city of Los Angeles in the first episode of the show. Over the years, Vancouver has served as a filming site for a variety of titles, such as ‘The Recruit,’ ‘Criminal Minds,’ ‘The X-Files,’ ‘Tracker,’ ‘The Irrational,’ ‘The Man in the High Castle,’ and ‘Monk.’
Greater Los Angeles, California
After utilizing Vancity’s diverse locations, which offer a blend of natural and urban environments, the production team of the inaugural installment packed everything up and landed in the iconic metropolitan area of California — Greater Los Angeles — in November 2024. In particular, a major portion of the filming of ‘Suits LA’ takes place in Los Angeles. The exterior of the Black Lane Law firm is represented by the Creative Artists Agency building at 2000 Avenue of the Stars. Several other buildings of the 14-acre super block known as Century Park, which is located in the Century City neighborhood of LA, also make regular appearances in the backdrop.
Throughout the show, you can also spot many prominent landmarks, such as The Griffith Observatory at 2800 East Observatory Road, in the backdrop. The Hollywood Forever Cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard is another popular landmark where several scenes of season 1 featuring the pivotal characters working at Black Lane Law were shot. For the filming of the interior sequences covering the office sets, the team likely utilizes the services of a production facility.
Much like ‘Suits,’ this NBC production also uses sets constructed on a soundstage for the scenes set inside the office, which is likely the Universal Studios Lot. It is situated at 100 Universal City Plaza in the neighborhood of Universal City within the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. Shooting the scenes in a controlled environment enables the production team to comfortably execute their vision and create an immersive experience for the audience as intended. From what we can tell, additional portions are also taped in the city of Burbank, which is popularly known as the Media Capital of the World.
