Originally titled ‘Metruk Adam,’ Netflix’s ‘Abandoned Man’ is a Turkish drama movie helmed by Çagri Vila Lostuvali. The narrative follows Baran, a tormented and broken man who was forced to serve time for a crime that his brother committed. With his life turned upside down due to the incarceration, he aims to get his life back on track after he is released from prison, but it’s easier said than done. As he dreams of opening his own repair shop, Baran forms an unexpected bond with his niece, Lidya, who plays an important role in helping him confront his past and rebuild his life.
With the responsibility of his own life and of Lidya’s in his hands, Baran must mend his life and provide a better future for her. Featuring compelling performances from a talented ensemble cast comprising Mert Ramazan Demir, Ada Erma, Rahimcan Kapkap, Edip Tepeli, Burcu Cavrar, and Ercan Kesal, the drama deals with some heavy topics such as grief, forgiveness, family bonds, and second chances. In order to complement these aspects of the film, the cast and crew carefully scouted and utilized different kinds of locations and backdrops.
Abandoned Man Filming Locations
The shooting for ‘Abandoned Man’ was carried out in its entirety in Turkey, primarily in Istanbul. As per reports, principal photography for the Netflix production got underway in July 2024 under the working title ‘Tamir Adam’ and went on for a few weeks before wrapping up in August of the same year. The cast and crew members seemingly had a lot of fun on set and returned home with new friends and many memories.

All the pivotal sequences for ‘Abandoned Man’ were reportedly lensed in and around Istanbul, which is on two continents — Europe and Asia. Located in north-western Turkey, the city is a unique blend of modern and historical architecture, providing a vast and diverse landscape for filmmakers. According to reports, the production team set up camp in the neighborhood of Arnavutköy, situated in the district of Beşiktaş. Its picturesque wooden houses decorated in Art Nouveau style can be spotted in the backdrop of several scenes.
The district and municipality of Beykoz also served as a prominent production location for ‘Abandoned Man.’ It is home to multiple cultural sites, including Anadoluhisarı, Küçüksu Pavilion, and the Khedive’s Palace. For the purpose of shooting, the cast and crew supposedly turned several neighborhoods and areas of the district into film sets. In the establishing shots, the iconic Bosphorus Bridge also features. Constructed in 1973, the bridge spans the Bosphorus Strait and extends between Ortaköy and Beylerbeyi. Given Istanbul’s versatility, it has hosted the production of different kinds of projects over the years. Some of the notable ones include ‘Aftersun,’ ‘The Water Diviner,’ ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist,’ ‘My Father and My Son,’ ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7,’ ‘The Pit,’ ‘Family Secrets,’ and ‘Brave and Beautiful.’
