Under the direction of Gonzalo Fernández Carmona, Netflix’s ‘Almost Cops’ centers on a special investigator named Ramon who is dedicated to making his neighborhood safer and free of crime. After he gets involved in a disciplinary incident, he is paired with a reckless and demoted ex-detective named Jack. Forced to work together, the two investigators are polar opposites when it comes to their investigative styles. What connects the two is the fact that they both have lost a loved one to a violent crime.
Over time, they make a strong and dynamic team responsible for hunting down a perpetrator. As they get closer to the truth, Ramon and Jack face some shocking secrets. Originally titled ‘Bad Boa’s,’ the Dutch action crime comedy movie features a talented and hilarious ensemble cast comprising Jandino Asporaat, Werner Kolf, Florence Vos Weeda, Ferdi Stofmeel, Ergun Simsek, and Juliette van Ardenne. The adventures of the buddy cops unfold on the streets of Rotterdam, Netherlands, where a lot of chaos ensues throughout the narrative.
Almost Cops Filming Locations
‘Almost Cops’ was filmed in its entirety in the Netherlands, especially in and around Rotterdam. From what we can tell, principal photography for the Gonzalo Fernandez Carmona directorial took place in the summer of 2024, between June and July. One of the crew members, Luigino Clarinda, took to social media and expressed his gratitude for being a part of the film. He stated, “Super proud of working on this film! Worked with an amazing crew and learned some valuable key points of working as a AC with @adriaanvandepolder , @gijs.de and @gregg_telussa. But most importantly made some great friends and memories.”
Rotterdam, Netherlands
Staying true to its setting, the production team of ‘Almost Cops’ settled on using the stunning locales of the Netherlands to create the visual canvas of the movie. In particular, the shooting of the Dutch film took place on location in Rotterdam in the province of South Holland. For the purpose of filming, the cast and crew utilized the locales around the serene and shimmering Nieuwe Maas river that runs through the heart of the city.
Several scenes were lensed around De Zalmhaven or Zalmhaventoren, the iconic 215-meter-high residential complex in Gedempte Zalmhaven in the neighborhood of Scheepvaartkwartier (Maritime Quarter). Per reports, as of writing, it is not only the tallest building in the country but also the world’s tallest prefabricated (prefab) tower. A portion of the filming of the buddy cop comedy was also carried out on The Erasmusbrug or Erasmus Bridge, one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world that stands tall at 139 metres high as a luminous centerpiece of Rotterdam.
Located at Parkhaven 20, the observation tower called Euromast also doubled up as a filming site. It is a popular tourist landmark and also offers panoramic views of the city. A few sequences were also taped near The Witte Huis or White House, an Art Nouveau-style skyscraper at Geldersekade 1C, which is also considered a National Heritage Site. Also dubbed Manhattan at the Meuse (river), Rotterdam boasts a rich maritime heritage and is home to one of the biggest ports in the world. It is renowned for its innovative contemporary architecture, stunning skyscape, and vibrant cultural and art scene. Over the years, the city has assisted in the production of several movies and shows, such as ‘Who Am I?,’ ‘Opa Cor,’ ‘A Zed & Two Noughts,’ ‘Black Out,’ ‘Popoz,’ ‘Out for Vengeance,’ and ‘Vet Hard.’
