Netflix’s ‘Battle Camp’ is an adventurous reality competition series that pits reality stars from other reality shows and docuseries together in a remote camp as they chase a $250,000 reward. However, to win the life-changing cash prize and avoid elimination from the competition, they must compete against each other in a series of physical challenges, social gameplay, and face grueling punishments. Besides that, the competitors must also work hard to be in the good books of the others, as a voting system is in place for the eliminations, which is also determined by a spinning wheel.
Right after their arrival in the camp, the players are divided into three teams: the Bears, the Eagles, and the Wolves. The three teams go head to head and do everything they can to keep their names off the deciding spinning wheel. The reality show is hosted by the former NFL player, Taylor Lewan, who also serves as the coach and camp counselor. The natural setting in the backdrop enhances the visual appeal of the competition, which otherwise is filled with physical challenges.
Battle Camp Filming Locations
The production of ‘Battle Camp’ takes place in a secluded region in Mexico, as the makers make the most of the natural setting to set up difficult physical challenges for the competitors. From what we can tell, the principal photography for the inaugural iteration got underway in March 2024 and wrapped up in a month or so, in April of the same year. As the premiere date approached, the camp counselor, Taylor Lewan, shared his shooting experience. He said, “It was 30+ days of late nights and early mornings, trying to figure out how to swim in this brand-new ocean. The cast was amazing to be around, but the production team was something I’d never seen before. A staff of over 400 people, all working together to create the best product possible, while trusting a football player with fake teeth to facilitate and drive this new show.”
Outskirts of Mexico City
In order to tape all the pivotal sequences of ‘Battle Camp,’ the cast and crew members traveled all the way to Mexico, in the mountains just outside Mexico City. On the site, a camp consisting of multiple wooden cabins, other wooden structures, and pathways in front of them was seemingly constructed where the contestants stay and hang out when they are not indulging in the challenges of the competition. More importantly, many unique sets were also built for the physical challenges, both on land and on water.
While the participants are involved in high-stakes and intense challenges throughout the show, the lush green mountains and water in the area paint the backdrop. Thus, you are likely to notice several prominent mountain peaks, such as Ajusco, Pico del Águila, Cerro Taravilla, and many more. Apart from ‘Battle Camp,’ Mexico City and the surrounding areas have been utilized for the production of several reality projects, including ‘Love Is Blind: México,’ ‘Don’t Drive Here,’ ‘The Amazing Race,’ and ‘Secretos de Villanas.’
