Where is Netflix’s Project UFO Filmed?

The creation of Kasper Bajon, Netflix’s ‘Project UFO,’ is a Polish science fiction drama series that revolves around the alleged UFO sighting and its aftermath. After the supposed event, a formerly famed TV host joins forces with an extraterrestrial enthusiast to find out everything they can about the origins of aliens and the fascinating yet mysterious truths associated with them. Amidst their quest, everyone starts forming their own doubts and beliefs surrounding the subject.

As commotion starts storming the nation, the two men, who spearheaded the entire conversation related to aliens, are hoping to make the world believe in their respective theories. In the meantime, an influential political figure tries to make the most of his power and situation by using the paranormal phenomena to take full control of the nation. Originally titled ‘Projekt UFO,’ the story is set in the early 1980s in Truskasy, Warmia, where the alleged UFO landing occurs. Besides the compelling onscreen performances from Piotr Adamczyk, Mateusz Kościukiewicz, Julia Kijowska, and Maja Ostaszewska, the apt visuals and backdrops also play a part in bringing the narrative to life.

Project UFO Filming Locations

The production of ‘Project UFO’ takes place in different locations across Poland, especially in Warsaw, Warmia, and Poreba. As per reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the sci-fi series seemingly got underway in September 2023 and went on for a few months before getting wrapped up before the end of the year.

Warsaw, Poland

A majority of ‘Project UFO’ was filmed in the capital of Poland — Warsaw. The cityscape boasts a blend of modern and historical architecture, making it an ideal filming destination for period movies and shows. Many streets and neighborhoods in the Capital City of Warsaw served as shooting sites in the Netflix production. Since the story is set in the 1980s, the filming unit redecorated the streets and turned them into film sets that look the part. From what we can tell, the neighborhood of Warsaw Old Town and the surrounding areas served as prominent production locations as the cast and crew members were spotted lensing several important exterior portions for ‘Project UFO.’

Being the oldest portion of the city, the Old Town consists of many historic and culturally significant buildings such as the Old Town Market Square, the Royal Castle, St. John’s Archcathedral, and the Warsaw Mermaid Statue, some of which fill the backdrop of several outdoor scenes. Apart from ‘Project UFO,’ Warsaw has been featured in many notable film and TV projects, such as ‘On the Silver Globe,’ ‘The Man with the Magic Box,’ ‘It Came from the Water,’ ‘A Girl and an Astronaut,’ and ‘Spellbinder: Land of the Dragon Lord.’

Other Locations in Poland

The production team of ‘Project UFO’ also traveled to multiple other locations in Poland in search of suitable shooting sites for the historical sci-fi series. To be specific, the core of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship — Warmia — reportedly hosted the production of the series. The filming unit set up camp in the region, making the most of the historical streets and important landmarks. It seems that certain pivotal sequences were also taped in and around the Luxor Ballroom at Przełęcz 3 in Poreba. The prestigious ballroom is not only known for hosting wedding parties, but it also organizes Women’s Day, St. Andrew’s Day, New Year’s Eve, and Carnival Day parties.
