Where is Netflix’s Star Search Filmed?

The reboot of the classic eponymous show, Netflix’s ‘Star Search,’ is a competition reality show that breathes new life into its legacy by bringing together a wide range of talented performers and showcasing their prowess across different fields, including dance, music, magic, comedy, and more. As the contestants face off on a live stage, they are voted on by the audience and viewers in real time with weekly eliminations, making the competition all the more intense.

Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the series is judged by a trio of big names — Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chrissy Teigen. Thus, although it follows a similar format, the reboot version is different in the sense that each performance and each elimination happens in real time. The show and its drama unfold within the enclosed space as the participants perform their respective acts on the stage surrounded by lights and the audience.

Star Search Filming Locations

The filming for ‘Star Search’ takes place in California, particularly in the city of Los Angeles. According to reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the reboot series got underway on the day of its premiere, that is, January 20, 2025, as it is shot live in front of an audience. Given the fact that California is the home to the Hollywood industry, it is only fitting that a reality show where new stars are born is shot in the Golden State.

Studio City, LA, California

LA is home to the film studios of some of the biggest production companies, including Paramount, Warner Bros., Universal, Disney, and Sony Pictures. Other independent studios located in LA and its surrounding areas are Los Angeles Center Studios, Studios 60, the Culver Studios, Radford Studio Center, Raleigh Studios, and more. Thus, the filming unit took over a sound stage of one of the film studios, situated in the neighborhood of Studio City, in order to tape all the indoor sequences for the series.

It is likely that the production team also taped a few establishing shots of the sprawling city of Los Angeles, which is known for multiple iconic landmarks and buildings, such as the Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles City Hall, Griffith Observatory, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, U.S. Bank Tower, and more. Apart from ‘Star Search,’ LA has hosted the production of several reality shows like ‘Hell’s Kitchen,’ ‘The Masked Singer,’ ‘Fear Factor,’ ‘MasterChef USA,’ ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ and more.
