Where is Netflix’s That Night Filmed?

Adapted from the eponymous bestselling novel by Gillian McAllister, Netflix’s ‘That Night’ is a Spanish crime-mystery drama series that centers on an accident in foreign soil that turns the lives of three sisters upside down. The narrative follows a young, single mother named Elena who travels to the Dominican Republic with her family, hoping to rejuvenate and relax. When she accidentally runs over a local police officer with her car, she asks her two sisters, Paula and Cris, for help in a state of panic and desperation.

As the two sisters come to Elena’s aid, the trio must come up with a way to handle the mishap. They must prevent her from going to jail, as it would leave her infant child without a mother. As Paula and Cris try their best to keep Elena out of jail, they end up making things worse. Originally titled ‘Esa Noche,’ the thriller show is created by Jason George and features a talented ensemble cast comprising Clara Galle, Paula Usero, Claudia Salas, Pedro Casablanc, Nüll García, and Raidher Diaz. The enthralling tale of three sisters unfolds in the Dominican Republic, where its tropical landscapes serve as a contrast to the narrative’s dark themes of murder.

That Night Filming Locations

The shooting for ‘That Night’ was conducted in Spain and the Dominican Republic, particularly in Gipuzkoa, Navarra, and San Pedro de Macorís. According to reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the whodunnit series got underway in early February 2025 and wrapped up after more than three months in May of the same year. Claudia Salas, who portrays Paula, took to social media upon the conclusion of the shooting for season 1. She stated (translated), “Finished filming for “That Night.” Thanks to everyone for the adventure…Happy summer friends.”

Gipuzkoa, Spain

Although most of the story takes place in the Dominican Republic, a significant portion of ‘That Night’ was reportedly lensed in the Spanish province of Gipuzkoa. The cast and crew members were spotted taping pivotal sequences in and around the Trintxerpe District, located in the town of Pasaia. Several important scenes for the Spanish thriller series were also recorded in the city of San Sebastián, which is situated on the coast of the Bay of Biscay. It is likely that a few spots across the province doubled as the Dominican Republic.

Navarra, Spain

The landlocked province of Navarra also served as a prominent production location for the Netflix show. Its vast and versatile landscape allowed the makers to capture many key scenes, especially those set in Spain. Apart from ‘That Night,’ the locales of Navarra feature in several movies, including ‘The Counselor,’ ‘The Invisible Guardian,’ ‘A Twelve-Year Night,’ ‘The Day of the Beast,’ ‘A Man of Action,’ Line Walker 2: Invisible Spy,’ ‘Verano en Rojo,’ and ‘The Legacy of the Bones.’

San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic

Since ‘That Night’ is significantly set in the Dominican Republic, it is only natural that the makers set up camp on location to add a layer of authenticity to the narrative. From the vacation scenes involving Elena to the burial scene of the dead man’s body, most of them were taped in the province of San Pedro de Macorís. The filming unit reportedly made the most of the amenities of Lantica Studios, previously known as Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, at Autovia del Este KM. 55, in the city of Juan Dolio. Home to three state-of-the-art sound stages, the film studio also offers water tank facilities, production offices, dressing & makeup rooms, workshops, utility rooms, and multiple backlot areas, making it an ideal filming destination for all kinds of projects.
