Netflix’s ‘Ziam’ is a Thai zombie horror movie that revolves around an unexpected zombie outbreak inside a hospital, leading to total chaos among the staff and patients. The narrative follows a former professional Muay-Thai fighter named Singh, who has decided to hang up his boots after a successful career. Up until now, his life was filled with fights and competition, but now he wants to lead a life full of peace and quiet with the love of his life, Rin, a doctor. His plans for a peaceful future are shattered when there is a zombie outbreak at the hospital where Rin works.
With bloodthirsty zombies swarming the healthcare facility, Singh makes it his responsibility to rescue his girlfriend by using his years of fighting experience and skills. Amidst the chaos, he also comes across a young boy named Buddy, whom he protects from the zombie attacks. Singh’s fighting instincts, coupled with his courage and grit, allow him to fight off the horde of zombies, but for how long? Helmed by Kulp Kaljareuk, the thriller film features a talented ensemble cast comprising Mark Prin, Nychaa Nuttanicha, and Vayla Wanvayla. The atmospheric tension and claustrophobia are maintained throughout the narrative, primarily thanks to the dreary setting of the hospital where most of the story unfolds.
Ziam Filming Locations
‘Ziam’ was reportedly filmed in Thailand, across different sites that were transformed to portray the zombie apocalypse in a realistic manner. Although there is little to no information about the filming dates, the lead actor, Mark-Prin Suparat, opened up about his process of doing justice to the character of Singh. He stated, “I had to get in top physical shape. I joined a Muay-Thai workshop and spent around four to five hours a day there. Training started with warm-ups, jumping rope, shadow boxing, practicing techniques with my coach, learning counterattacks, and rehearsing the fight choreography for the movie.”
Thailand
According to reports, the entirety of the martial arts zombie movie was lensed in Thailand, where the production team set up camp in a film studio with lots of modern amenities and backlot space. The hospital where the outbreak of zombies occurs in ‘Ziam’ is either a real-life hospital or it was especially constructed on sound stages in order to accommodate all the intricacies related to shooting in tight spaces. It is highly likely that a film studio in the city of Bangkok was utilized to bring the action-packed thriller to life.
In order to create a sense of tension and horror, the crew members seemingly built tight corridors and interiors, replicating modern hospitals. This setup allowed the makers to capture the zombie attacks from a close range and provide the audience with an immersive experience. Thanks to the advanced studios and facilities associated with Bangkok, it has served as a production location for several projects, including ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth,’ ‘Home Sweet Home: Rebirth,’ ‘Operation Blood Hunt,’ and ‘School Tales the Series.’
