Where is Nightmares of Nature Filmed?

Netflix’s ‘Nightmares of Nature is a three-part nature documentary series that revolves around three creatures in the woods — a raccoon, a pregnant mouse, and a froglet. Capturing their experiences through their unique perspectives, the docuseries follows the trio of woodland creatures as they navigate the darkness and dangers that surround nature. While trying to make a home out of a cabin in the North American woods, they are met with some unexpected horrors that threaten their existence. The mysterious and eerie setting of the wooded area where the three creatures fight for survival adds a hint of drama and thrill to the documentary.

Nightmares of Nature Filming Locations

‘Nightmares of Nature’ is filmed primarily in Georgia, especially in Alapaha and, seemingly, in Atlanta. According to reports, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the documentary series took place in 2024, spanning approximately three weeks. One of the crew members, Jake Morris, took to social media as the premiere of the show approached. He stated, “3 incredible weeks of filming, a brilliant team and a show that feels entirely different from anything that we’ve seen in Natural History tv before. I learnt a huge amount from the awesome team around me and will be forever grateful for being a part of it.”

Gaskins Forest Education Center

Georgia served as the base for the production team of ‘Nightmares of Nature’ as almost the entirety of the show was taped in the Peach State. Several pivotal sequences involving the three woodland creatures from the first season were seemingly filmed at the Gaskins Forest Education Center, located at 3359 Moore Sawmill Road in the town of Alapaha. The site is mainly used as an outdoor classroom space for students in the forestry and wildlife classes. Moreover, it serves as a space for hosting workshops and field trips to educate students on forestry, hydrology, geology, botany, and wildlife.

Given the significance of the site, it is the ideal choice for a nature documentary like ‘Nightmares of Nature.’ From what we can tell, a few portions of the show were also shot utilizing the facilities or amenities of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Southeast in the city of Atlanta. The state of Georgia has hosted the production of several shows about the animal kingdom, including ‘The Aquarium,’ ‘Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin,’ and more.
