A remake of the 2021 Norwegian film ‘The Trip,’ ‘Over Your Dead Body’ is an action-comedy movie directed by Jorma Taccone. The narrative revolves around a dysfunctional couple, Lisa and Dan (portrayed by Samara Weaving and Jason Segel, respectively), who, in an effort to save their marriage and reconnect, head to a secluded cabin for a romantic getaway. After settling down at the cabin, they find out that each has secretly orchestrated a plan to kill the other.
However, their murderous plans are derailed as they are ambushed by a group of strangers, who have come with plans of their own. Now, the couple has no choice but to join forces and survive the bloody commotion and attacks by the intruders. By the end, they must decide if they wish to save their holy matrimony or survive each other. The psychological thriller film is primarily set in the remote cabin, where most of the carnage unfolds. The isolated setting also adds to the atmospheric tension present throughout the narrative.
Over Your Dead Body Filming Locations
‘Over Your Dead Body’ was filmed entirely in Finland, specifically in Tampere and Ylöjärvi. According to reports, principal photography for the comedy thriller commenced in November 2024 and went on for about a month or so before wrapping up in December of the same year. The production reportedly received incentives from Business Finland, The City of Tampere, and Film Tampere, while production services were provided by Films Films Films.
Tampere, Finland
The scenes set in the city where Lisa and Dan lead a dysfunctional married life were reportedly lensed in Tampere, the regional capital of Pirkanmaa. The filming unit seemingly took over a real-life establishment to shoot the couple’s residence sequences. In the establishing shots of Tampere, you are likely to spot various popular landmarks and buildings, such as the Tampere City Hall, the Tampere Hall, Hämeensilta Bridge, the Tampere Cathedral, Hotel Torni, and more. Apart from ‘Over Your Dead Body,’ Tampere has served as a prominent production location for several movies and TV shows over the years. Some of the notable ones include ‘Dual,’ ‘The Abyss,’ ‘Skeleton Crew,’ ‘Private Eye Vares,’ ‘Tuftland,’ ‘The Book of Fate,’ ‘Farewell, Mr. President,’ ‘Enemy of the People,’ and ‘Piiritys.’
Ylöjärvi, Finland
A majority of pivotal sequences for ‘Over Your Dead Body’ were taped in the town of Ylöjärvi, which is located west of Tampere in the Pirkanmaa region. A real-life property located in the Siivikkala neighborhood doubled as the remote cabin where Lisa and Dan stay to mend their marriage. The area surrounding the establishment also features in the backdrop of a few portions. During a conversation with Cinema Daily US, the filmmaker Jorma Taccone was asked about the most technically difficult scene to shoot during the production. He responded, “The most difficult sequence was the window break leading into a chain of escalating violence. The challenge was maintaining continuity – lighting shifts from night to day, and the positioning of characters and objects had to make sense and the geography needed to stay clear.”
In order to adjust the lighting according to their requirements, they used a bit of visual effects. He added, “There were also stunt challenges – we were shooting in Finland where daylight is limited, and the terrain made certain planned shots impossible. For example, we wanted a car to spin into the yard and hit someone, but the ground conditions made that impossible. We had to adapt on the day, which meant rethinking the stunt entirely. That kind of problem-solving is stressful but also one of the most exciting parts of filmmaking.”
