In ‘Reminders of Him,’ Maika Monroe stars as Kenna, who leads a fulfilling life with her boyfriend, Scotty. During one of their outings, she ends up making a life-altering mistake that gets her convicted of vehicular manslaughter in connection with Scotty’s death. During her time in prison, she gives birth to her daughter, Diem Landry, whose custody is won by Scotty’s parents. After spending more than six years behind bars, Kenna returns to her hometown in Wyoming to get her life back on track and reunite with her young daughter. However, her attempts to meet with her daughter are rejected by Diem’s custodial grandparents.
Feeling dejected and defeated, Kenna finds an unlikely connection with a local bar owner named Ledger, a former NFL player and Scotty’s best friend. Soon, a secret romance develops between them as they must work together to heal from past wounds. In pursuit of a second chance, Kenna risks her heart being broken again. Adapted from the eponymous 2022 novel by Colleen Hoover, the romantic drama movie is directed by Vanessa Caswill. As the tale unfolds in a fictional small town in Wyoming, the visual canvas is filled with mountains and water bodies in the background, adding depth to the narrative.
Reminders of Him Filming Locations
‘Reminders of Him’ was filmed entirely in Alberta, especially in Calgary, Didsbury, Bragg Creek, Banff, Nanton, High River, Longview, and Kananaskis. According to reports, principal photography for the Vanessa Caswill directorial got underway around mid-April 2025 and continued for about two months before concluding in June of the same year. Zoe Kosovic, who portrays Diem Landry, took to social media after the shooting process ended. Recounting her experience on set, she stated, “That’s a wrap! I had the absolute best time filming this. I made so many wonderful friendships and so many beautiful memories! Thank you everyone for being so great with me! I will miss you!”
Calgary, Alberta
The city of Calgary served as the primary production location for ‘Reminders of Him.’ The filming unit seemingly utilized numerous real-life establishments and studio spaces to lens important indoor sequences under a controlled environment. The scenes involving Ledger’s bar and apartments were possibly shot on sound stages in a film studio situated in or around Calgary. Apart from the romantic drama, the city has hosted the production of several movies and TV shows, including ‘Legends of the Fall,’ ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ ‘Open Range,’ ‘Days of Heaven,’ ‘My Life with the Walter Boys,’ and ‘Billy the Kid.’
Didsbury, Alberta
In the month of May 2025, the production team of ‘Reminders of Him’ set up camp in multiple locales across the town of Didsbury, located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. From what we can tell, various small-town residential portions and exterior scenes were taped in the town. For shooting purposes, the areas around 18 Avenue and 20 Street were seemingly turned into film sets. During a conversation with Deadline, the director Vanessa Caswill opened up about the thought process behind choosing the Alberta locations for the movie.
While scouting for the locations, she and her team were fascinated by the vast landscape of Alberta, including the mountains that have the tendency to make one feel isolated and lonely, but also offer a sense of power and security. She added, “I loved the opposites of that, and being able to play with that. We obviously had to create a geographical map of our town. And how do we have it that it feels like you can have all these vast shops, you can have these mountains in the background, and have Kenna walking along these prairies to get to work or to get to the town, but you believe that there’s a town there? We thought about that great deal. Our (set) designer ended up creating a map for us, and it all made complete sense, even though it was a fictional town.”
Other Locations in Alberta
The cast and crew traveled to numerous locations across Alberta to fill the visual canvas of ‘Reminders of Him.’ They made the most of several areas in the vast Banff National Park, including the Icefields Parkway and Mount Rundle, which seemingly feature in multiple exterior and establishing shots. In Nanton, the filming unit took over the area near the W.S. Keely Building at 1901 20th Avenue. For taping a few exterior scenes, they set up camp in the hamlet of Bragg Creek, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. In addition, High River, Longview, and Kananaskis also served as key filming sites for ‘Reminders of Him.’
In the same Deadline interview, the filmmaker was asked about shooting the car crash scene. Vanessa revealed that they had only one go at shooting that scene. “We just had many cameras and crash cameras, and we also had a very short window to do it in, because we had to do it at twilight. Otherwise, if it got too dark, then we wouldn’t be able to see anything through on a road with no natural light. We wanted the shape of the mountains and the trees in the background, so we had a very short window to do this quite tricky stunt shot,” she said. The stunt team was confident that the car would flip exactly the way they wanted.
She added, “I wanted the headlights, once the car had flipped, to be shooting up the ravine, so that when Kenna walks out, she’s lit and that’s what she’s lit by. And it all just landed perfectly. It was amazing, fantastic. We were all a bit worried about the stunt guy in the car because it was a big ravine. I don’t know if you can see how big it is in the shot, but it was. He got out, and he was fine. We were all holding our breath on set.” She also shared that they shot the car crash three times in three different ways. “We shot it on a stage as well. But we had three cars. One car was on a spit, so as they’re rotating in the car, that’s what we did on the stage. And then we had the other car, the one that crashed, and one that had already crashed, that she climbs out of. It was a three-way process,” she stated.
