Loosely adapted from the 2001 video game titled ‘Silent Hill 2’ and the third movie in the ‘Silent Hill’ film franchise, ‘Return to Silent Hill’ is a supernatural horror thriller movie helmed by Christophe Gans. The narrative revolves around James Sunderland, a broken man haunted by his dark past, who returns to Silent Hill in order to search for his lost love, Mary Crane. What was once a quiet, idyllic town has become an eerie place consumed by darkness, completely the opposite of how James remembers it.
While he is on a mission to find Mary, James encounters familiar and monstrous figures who try their best to hinder his search. Not long after, the mishaps along the way make him question his sanity and doubt if what he is living is a reality or not. The psychological thriller is brought to life by the compelling performances of Jeremy Irvine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Evie Templeton, Pearse Egan, and Robert Strange. The adventurous journey of James Sunderland takes him to the eponymous town, which serves as an additional character that tries its best to prevent him from reuniting with Mary.

Bavaria, Germany
To paint the visual canvas of ‘Return to Silent Hill,’ the cast and crew also traveled to the landlocked German state of Bavaria. A portion of the filming was conducted in the Ammersee, also known as Lake Ammer, a glacial lake nestled in Upper Bavaria. Furthermore, the team was also spotted capturing a few shots in Munich, the capital city noted for its beer culture, rich cultural heritage and age-old Bavarian architecture. The city of Nuremberg also lent its innate old-world charm, medieval architecture and shadowed alleyways, thus complementing the suspenseful tone of the narrative. The team also chose the municipality of Penzing in the district of Landsberg as one of the filming locations. In particular, the services of HYPERBOWL, a virtual production house located at Kauferinger Straße 48 in Fliegerhorst, Landsberg, were utilized to lens some sequences of the horror movie.
