From the mind of Bill Lawrence, ABC’s ‘Scrubs’ is revived by the network after more than one and a half decades of hiatus. The revived version of the medical comedy series follows the same old best friends, Dr. JD Dorian and Dr. Christopher Turk, who find themselves working together at Sacred Heart Hospital after several years. This time around, their bromance not only faces the test of time but also other challenges due to various advancements in the medicine industry and the hospital itself.

JD and Turk must deal with modern medical issues and new interns, while scrubbing together and making new memories at the hospital. Starring Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, Vanessa Bayer, Joel Kim Booster, Ava Bunn, and Jacob Dudman, the sitcom is primarily set inside the Sacred Heart Hospital, which serves as an additional character that nurtures the duo’s friendship and helps the doctors connect to their patients.

Although the original seasons of ‘Scrubs’ were lensed in Los Angeles, California, the shooting for the 10th season took place in Vancouver, British Columbia. According to reports, principal photography for the revival show got underway in early October 2025 and continued for about two months before wrapping up by the end of the same year.

Vancouver, British Columbia

Taking a huge detour from other instalments of ‘ABC’s Scrubs,’ the production of the revival of the sitcom has moved to Vancouver in British Columbia. Therefore, the events that unfold in the lives of the employees of Sacred Heart Hospital are actually lensed in the port city in the westernmost Canadian province. The sets that production designer Cabot McMullen designed for the earlier seasons of the series were recreated by the team on soundstages in Hollywood North, a world-renowned production hub. Alongside the replication of the old sets, they also updated the sets by introducing modern equipment and design elements that reflect the contemporary setting and add a layer of authenticity to the visual aesthetic.

Zach Braff, who essays the character of John Michael Dorian AKA J.D., serves as an executive producer of the tenth season. In a conversation with Television Academy, he explained why he felt it was important to strike the perfect balance between nostalgia and reinvention. “I was very adamant that the hospital feel the same and have the nostalgic element for the fans and for us but also have new elements layered on top of that,” the actor stated. In an interview with Soap Central, Braff shared his experience stepping onto the set, highlighting its accuracy compared to the original. “I never thought it would be 100% accurate or to scale, I thought it would be like 65% to scale..It is pretty much every place we shot in the old abandoned hospital recreated on stage, just extraordinary work by the production designer and his team.”

He continued, “Literally, you’ll be in the set, and you’ll go, oh, that’s Riverside that way. The drop actually looks so real that looks out north in the Valley, it’s very, very, very surreal.” Echoing Braff’s sentiments, Sarah Chalke, who plays Elliot Reid-Dorian, shared, “They actually got to do the old hospital, it’s identical, but make it better. It was really cool, it was really surreal, actually, to walk onto the set for the first time, because obviously we spent all of our 20s there, and then to come back that many years later and have it be exactly the same, it was incredible.” Shifting the production base to Vancouver provided the team with logistical advantages, such as streamlined permitting processes, lucrative tax incentives, first-rate production studios, experienced local talent and crew, favorable climate and significant flexibility in building the set.
