Helmed by Christine Conradt, Lifetime’s ‘Secrets in a Small Georgia Town’ is a crime thriller drama movie that follows a single mother named Halle Weathers, who leads a simple yet content life with her 14-year-old daughter, Emma Weathers, in a small town. Their peace and quiet are disrupted when Dallas Tucker, the troublesome son of a wealthy local businessman, attempts to sexually assault Emma. While confronting the assailant and rescuing her beloved daughter, Halle ends up running him over and killing him.
The incident opens a can of worms, with the town’s local sheriff, John Minsley, arresting the single mother and charging her with second-degree murder of Dallas. As Emma finds herself fighting against the corruption, classism, and power structures, the corrupt sheriff tries to protect the Tuckers by manipulating evidence and swaying public opinion in their favor. While awaiting trial, Halle also decides to stand in a local election against John to change the system from within. The tale is about the tussle between justice and corruption, reflected in the town’s quaint facade and the darkness that lurks beneath it.
