Based on the Swedish show titled ‘Expedition Robinson,’ CBS’ ‘Survivor‘ is a survival reality show created by Charlie Parsons. It drops a group of people on an isolated island, where they must survive on their own and provide the basic necessities — fire, food, and shelter — for themselves. Besides surviving in the wilderness without any contact from the outside world, the contestants must also participate in challenges that push their physical and mental abilities to the limit.
Participants who perform well in the games are granted immunity from elimination and receive rewards. The last survivor standing earns the title of “Sole Survivor” and the grand cash prize. In season 51, a similar format is followed as a new set of contestants compete for $1 million, while several game mechanics and advantages from previous seasons were introduced to catch the survivors by surprise. Hosted by Jeff Probst, the season is again set on the familiar remote islands, where new challenges test the participants’ survival skills.
Survivor 51 Filming Locations
Following the pattern of several of the previous seasons, ‘Survivor 51’ was also shot on the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. According to reports, principal photography for the 51st round of the reality show got underway in April 2026 and continued for nearly four weeks before concluding in May of the same year. During the shoot, the cast and crew members endured extreme weather conditions on the islands but still managed to make new friends and special memories.
Mamanuca Islands, Fiji
For the 19th consecutive season, Mamanuca Islands in Fiji served as the primary production location for ‘Survivor 51.’ From what we can tell, several pivotal sequences were seemingly lensed on Monuriki Island, situated off the coast of Viti Levu. Mamanuca Islands’ crystal clear waters, live coral reefs, and pristine sandy beaches feature in multiple scenes as the survivors participate in different games and challenges. During an interview with TV Insider, the longtime host and showrunner of ‘Survivor,’ Jeff Probst, was asked about the challenges of the 51st season.
He revealed, “(Season) 51 actually has a little bit of everything. They do get some tough weather, and there’s a couple of nights where — and we see it in the season — they come out of it really wrecked. But I would encapsulate 51 with, honestly, it felt like the players knew they were birthing a new game. And I think that’s what fans will think. By the time’s the season’s over, they’ll go, “OK, we now get the Open Era. It’s a new type of Survivor game.” The privilege and the responsibility that the Survivor 51 players had was you’re the ones launching it, so don’t mess it up.”
