Created by Dorte W. Høgh, Søren Sveistrup, David Sandreuter, and Emilie Lebech Kaae, the second season of Netflix’s ‘The Chestnut Man’ (or ‘Kastanjemanden’) is titled ‘The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek,’ which is adapted from Søren Sveistrup’s eponymous novel. The crime thriller drama series follows the mysterious disappearance of a 41-year-old woman, after being stalked by an unidentified perpetrator for several months. Before her disappearance, the stalker had been surveilling her every move and sending her images and videos of herself, along with an innocent counting song. The case becomes more complicated when the missing woman turns up dead.
As the detectives, Mark Hess and Naia Thulin, reunite to get to the bottom of the homicide, they find evidence that it is connected to another unsolved murder case of a teenage student, who was also found murdered under similar circumstances a couple of years ago. Despite being competent enough to solve the cases and find the connection between the two murders, they struggle with the investigation, mainly because of their complicated relationship. While they navigate the gloomy, secluded areas of Copenhagen’s suburbs, the city takes on the form of an additional character, hiding dark secrets and the perpetrator.
The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek Filming Locations
Following the pattern of the previous season, the shooting for ‘The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek’ was also conducted entirely in Denmark, particularly in Copenhagen. From what we can tell, principal photography for the sophomore round of the Netflix production took place sometime in 2025 over the course of a few months.
Copenhagen, Denmark
The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, served as the primary production location for ‘The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek.’ Since most of the story unfolds in the suburban areas, the filming unit also filmed many scenes in various suburban neighborhoods and quaint parts of the city, adding a layer of authenticity to the enthralling narrative. They took over numerous streets and transformed them into film sets to lens important outdoor sequences.
In addition, the cast and crew members were also spotted taping pivotal sequences in a wooded area of Copenhagen. For recording indoor portions, they primarily set up camp at various real-life establishments and businesses. In the establishing shots, you are likely to notice multiple landmarks and popular buildings, such as Nyhavn, Amagertorv, the Crystal, the Church of Our Lady, the Copenhagen Court House, and more. Apart from ‘The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek,’ Copenhagen has hosted the production of many movies and TV shows over the years. Some of the notable titles include ‘The House That Jack Built,’ ‘Dancer in the Dark,’ ‘Department Q: The Keeper of Lost Causes,’ ‘The Girl with the Needle,’ ‘Secrets We Keep,’ and ‘Snake Killer.’
