Created by Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King, HBO’s ‘The Comeback’ is a sitcom that follows a former A-list actress named Valerie Cherish, who becomes a D-list celebrity with no employment and no recognition for her earlier work. In season 3, Valerie serves as an executive producer on her own show called ‘How’s That?!’ What makes things complicated is when she learns that the show is written by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As she tries to keep her Hollywood career afloat, the once-prominent actress must find a way to deal with the hurdles that come her way while serving as a producer. Besides Lisa Kudrow reprising her role as Valerie Cherish, the comedy show also features a talented ensemble cast, comprising Andrew Scott, Abbi Jacobson, John Early, Laura Silverman, Damian Young, Tim Bagley, Matt Cook, and more. Since the sitcom is about the Hollywood industry itself, most of the story unfolds in film studios and on sets as Valerie attempts to stay relevant.
The Comeback Season 3 Filming Locations
Following the pattern of the previous seasons, the production of ‘The Comeback’ season 3 was also reportedly conducted in Los Angeles County, California. According to reports, principal photography for the third round began in July 2025 and wrapped up after about four months in November of the same year. The still photographer, Erin Simkin, opened up about his experience of being on set and called it “an amazing experience.”
He added, “One of the trickier shows to work on. With at all times multiple cameras running and two doc crews, a studio crew and a main camera keeping out of the shot as well making sure to get the shot was a challenge. The brilliant MPK led the pack with such warmth and fun. I don’t think I’ve worked on a set before where the director knew every single persons name and made everyone feel so important to the making of this show.”
Los Angeles County, California
The filming unit of ‘The Comeback’ season 3 returned to the old stomping ground in Los Angeles County, where the previous seasons of the sitcom were shot. They also lensed pivotal sequences at some new spots across the county. For instance, in late September 2025, the cast and crew members were spotted taping important scenes outside the Orpheum Theatre at 842 South Broadway in the city of Los Angeles. A major chunk of the third round was recorded using the sound stages and facilities at Warner Bros. Studios Burbank at 4000 Warner Boulevard in the city of Burbank.
In particular, they taped the scenes for the sitcom Valerie is part of on the iconic Stage 24, also known as the Friends Stage, which holds sentimental value for the co-creator and lead, Lisa Kudrow. She was delighted to learn that the set included cast holding rooms, where the cast and crew can hang out in between takes. However, during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Lisa admitted, “I want to chat and I love connecting with other actors, I really do, but I couldn’t spend a lot of time in there, otherwise I wouldn’t have learned my lines.”
While shooting the final scene of the third season, Lisa “couldn’t get through rehearsal without getting really choked up.” She added, “I had to go outside and remind myself, ‘Just be Valerie. Play what’s happening. Play what’s happening.’ But every time I got to a certain point in the scene (tears). I kept thinking, ‘What are we going to do? Valerie can’t be crying now.’ I told myself, ‘Get out of here, get out of here, be Valerie.” Apart from ‘The Comeback,’ LA County has served as a shooting destination for multiple movies and TV shows, such as ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.,’ ‘Good Fortune,’ ‘The Naked Gun,’ ‘The New Adventures of Old Christine,’ ‘The Studio,’ and ‘Parks and Recreation.’
