Lifetime’s ‘The Daughter She Left Behind’ revolves around Rachel, a mother who has spent several years away from her daughter, Samantha Morgan, while working in international terrains. Finally, she is set to return home and reunite with her daughter for the first time in many years. However, their reunion is interrupted by the looming presence of a man threatening to kill Samantha. Now, Rachel must take matters into her own hands to protect her daughter and, in the process, regain the trust and love she lost over the years while she was away. With Gary Auerbach at the helm, the mystery thriller drama movie is primarily set in and around Rachel’s residence and other surrounding areas, where the mysterious man hunts for her daughter.
Where Was The Daughter She Left Behind Filmed?
‘The Daughter She Left Behind’ was filmed entirely in Utah, particularly in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area and Utah County. According to reports, principal photography for the Lifetime production got underway seemingly in late February or early March 2026 under the working title ‘Taken From Me’ and wrapped up in a couple of weeks around mid-March 2026. Karin King, who worked in the Hair Department, expressed her gratitude in a social media post, stating, “So grateful for these beautiful, talented friends and doing what we love. On the set of Taken From Me.”
Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area, Utah
A significant portion of ‘The Daughter She Left Behind’ was lensed in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, centered on Salt Lake City and comprising its surrounding areas. During the shooting process, the cast and crew members reportedly set up camp in the city of Ogden, the county seat of Weber County. To be specific, they took over the Ogden High School campus at 2828 Harrison Boulevard in Ogden to tape many pivotal interior and exterior sequences for the Gary Auerbach directorial. It is likely that the storefronts and businesses in Ogden’s downtown area also make an appearance in various scenes. Salt Lake City also served as a prominent production location for numerous key portions.
Utah County, Utah
For the purpose of shooting, the production team of ‘The Daughter She Left Behind’ also traveled to Utah County. Producer Jennifer Davis stated that the decision to tape the film in Utah was both creative and intentional. Opening up about the same, she said, “Beyond the locations, Utah offers a strong and growing filmmaking community, giving us the creative space to align culture, family, and identity within the world of the show. The location supports something much deeper, it’s about mentorship, collaboration, and creating space for underrepresented voices to thrive both on screen and behind the camera.”

Through their compelling performances, Kate del Castillo and Carissa Marquez helped bring the suspenseful tale of ‘The Daughter She Left Behind’ to life. Besides being a talented actor, Kate has also served as an executive producer for projects like ‘Hunting Ava Bravo,’ ‘Volver a Caer,’ ”Til Jail Do Us Part,’ and ‘Arranque de Pasión.’ She also lends her voice for the Spanish dubbing in ‘Cars,’ ‘The Book of Life,’ and ‘Bad Boys for Life.’ On the other hand, Carissa hails from a Mexican boxing family and has a background in competitive dance. In fact, her dance training led her to enter the film industry.

In her decades-long acting career, she has showcased her versatility by playing a wide range of characters. For instance, she features in ‘Under the Same Moon’ as Rosario, ‘The 33’ as Katty, ‘Reina del Sur’ as Teresa Mendoza, ‘The Cleaning Lady’ as Ramona Sanchez, ‘Ingobernable’ as Emilia Urquiza, and ‘Dueños del Paraíso’ as Anastasia Cardona. She also lends her voice to numerous animated films and shows, including ‘The Casagrandes Movie,’ ‘Americano,’ ‘Dora,’ ‘Monster High,’ and ‘Maya and the Three.’

Carissa Marquez steps into the role of Samantha Morgan, Rachel’s estranged daughter, who finds herself in trouble in the thriller film. You might recognize the Mexican-American actor from her portrayals of Cassie Freemont in ‘A Nurse’s Revenge,’ Sabrina Day in ‘The Christmas Chain,’ and a Jazz singer in ‘Stranger Things.’
The Lifetime production also features Tanner Gillman as Daniel, while John Donovan Wilson plays the role of Bear. Furthermore, Rylee Reagan portrays the character of Casey, and Logan Squire dons the garb of Thomas. The film also features a bunch of other actors in supporting yet important roles, including Bryce Fernelius as Alfonso, Michael Flynn as Victor, Bryson Alejandro as Campus Security Officer, Whitney Palmer as Police Officer, Hillary Straga as Doctor, K.
