Created by Julian Fellowes, HBO’s ‘The Gilded Age‘ is a historical drama series that revolves around the social war between two families in the late 19th century. After Marian Brook’s father passes away, she moves to New York City to live with her aunts. Consequently, she gets thrust into the middle of the war between one of her aunts and her influential neighbors — George and Bertha Russell. In the fourth season, Bertha must face the consequences of bringing changes to the Society, while Agnes looks to make the most of the opportunity and regain her position. As for Marian, she navigates new complications in her life while pursuing new opportunities. Set in the Big Apple in the late 19th century, the familiar setting reels viewers in and introduces fresh, interesting visuals to the canvas.
The Gilded Age Season 4 Filming Locations
Following the pattern of previous seasons, the fourth season of ‘The Gilded Age’ was also filmed across New York State and Rhode Island, specifically on Long Island, New York City, Troy, Albany, and Newport. Principal photography for season 4 commenced in late February 2026 and continued for nearly six months before concluding in early August of the same year. The crew member, Matthew Selkirk, took to social media and shared a few words of gratitude for being a part of the fourth season. He stated, “I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone on The Gilded Age S4 for all their help, hard work, and support. Thank you @sallirichwhit and @elie_smolkin for allowing me to jump in for EP 408.”
Long Island, New York
Located in southeastern New York State, Long Island served as one of the prominent production locations for ‘The Gilded Age’ season 4. In particular, many important scenes were lensed in the 209-acre recreated living museum village — Old Bethpage Village Restoration — at 1303 Round Swamp Road in the hamlet and census-designated place of Old Bethpage. The neighboring hamlet, Bethpage, also hosted the production of the period drama series, including scenes set at the Russell family’s house. The production team also reportedly set up camp at a property in the city of Glen Cove, standing in for the Brook House.
New York City, New York
Since ‘The Gilded Age’ is set in late-19th-century New York City, it is only natural for the makers to utilize the Big Apple to tape certain key scenes on location. From what we can tell, numerous streets of the Manhattan borough were transformed into film sets to accommodate the shooting of the fourth season, including St. Nicholas Avenue & West 145th Street. During the shoot, the cast and crew members were spotted recording many pivotal sequences in the Prince George Ballroom at 15 East 27th Street, the Bailey Mansion at 10 St. Nicholas Place in the Sugar Hill section of Harlem in Manhattan, and a few other beautiful townhouses on St. Nicholas Avenue and Convent Avenue.
Other Locations in New York
For the purpose of shooting, the filming unit of ‘The Gilded Age’ season 4 also traveled to other locations across New York State. For instance, the city of Troy, which doubled as Manhattan of the 1880s, served as a key production site, with various important scenes shot on 1st Street and at Washington Park at 215 3rd Street. Moreover, certain indoor portions were recorded inside St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 58 3rd Street. Another church was utilized for taping pivotal sequences for the fourth season — St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 107 State Street in downtown Albany. Furthermore, in the city of Schenectady, the Stockade Historic District was turned into a film set, with numerous key scenes shot on location.
Newport, Rhode Island
Additional portions for the fourth round of ‘The Gilded Age’ were reportedly shot in the seaside city of Newport, located on Aquidneck Island. According to reports, several of the Preservation Society’s historic mansions served as key filming locations for the historical series. In particular, in April 2026, the film crew was spotted lensing key portions in and around The Breakers mansion at 44 Ochre Point Avenue in Newport.
