Based on the Dutch game show ‘De kwis met ballen,’ Fox’s ‘The Quiz With Balls’ is a twisted test of the contestants’ general knowledge. The hilarious game show, hosted by comedian Jay Pharoah, involves two teams/families who compete against each other by answering a series of multiple-choice trivia questions. The team that wins the game gets to take home $100,000. The twist is that the players are made to stand at the bottom end of a slope over a pool of water. Giant yellow balls are placed at the top of the slope. If the players answer correctly, they stay dry, but if the answer is wrong, the balls roll down, hit them, and knock them into the pool. While the nature of the game show requires a controlled environment, the indoor space is decked out with all kinds of customized lights and accessories to highlight the show’s visual aspect.

‘The Quiz With Balls’ is filmed in Australia, specifically in Melbourne. Principal photography of Season 1 seemingly took place in the first and second quarters of 2024 before dropping in May of the same year. Considering Season 2 dropped around the same time in 2025, i.e., June, filming seemingly followed suit and took place in the first and second quarters of 2025. The contestants and the crew had a blast during production, thanks to the game’s format and the wholesome comedy of Jay Pharoah, who brought everyone together.

Melbourne, a major city in the Australian state of Victoria, became the base for the production of ‘The Quiz With Balls.’ The crew accessed the Docklands Studios, located at 476 Docklands Drive in Docklands, a suburb west of the Melbourne central business district, to tape the show. One of Melbourne’s largest production studios, Docklands Studios boasts six stages, including two that have waterproof pits for filming in water, totalling more than 108,000 square feet. The stages incorporate some of the largest state-of-the-art LED Volume screens, a TV broadcast center (Stage 5), used for game shows and live-audience television shows, a 65,000 square foot workshop, and dedicated production offices. Considering ‘The Quiz With Balls’ requires water, it was probably filmed in Stage 5. Other reality shows shot in the city are ‘MasterChef Dynamic Duos,’ ‘The Real Housewives of Melbourne,’ ‘My Kitchen Rules,’ and ‘All Star Family Feud.’
